Oh no! I am in this same boat. I've had this drive forever and recently got back to ripping my collection. I've had several discs fail (well, maybe 4-5 discs out of 100 or so so far) so I thought I'd go update the drive's firmware and see if that helped. Now I'm on 1.04 (same drive as @DavidLai).

I think you have the choice of waiting for Mike to do his thing, presuming you have a Pioneer drive, or buy a drive from one of the suppliers here.

Do folks just wait for the update to happen or is there a specific thread to follow here that he'd post on if/when that time comes?

However, Mike has at least stated that a solution exists for all such Pioneer drives . It's just that no-one has any hint of its ETA.
