Been using an LG drive a while, and wanting to have a backup. Just purchased an ASUS BW-16D1X-U, and looks like it has a Pioneer drive. I see a lot of the flash guides are for the LG and the Pioneer drive it depends on the firmware etc. So adding my drive to the list to see if there is a firmware or unlocking tool to allow it to read UHD discs and fully usable in MakeMKV.

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1X-U
Revision: E113
Serial number: DIDL127851WL
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F00
Firmware version: ID76

Firmware is too new. You have to wait until Mike has a solution.

Is there other drives that I can buy that are not as expensive as the pioneers that are guaranteed to work out of the box?

out of the box is dead and is not coming back anytime soon.

lg drives out of the box died in 2017
pioneer out of the box died in 2022 the same year support was added for them
no new drive will work out of the box
