Axe and I seem to have the same drive and for me, at least, with or without the second cable plugged into my iMac I am able to rip Blu-Ray discs to my virtual machine but MakeMKV (both in Windows and in OS X) doesn't see that the drive even exists. System Profiler on my Mac shows it's plugged in, VMWare Fusion shows it's plugged in, and Windows 7 uses the drive perfectly.

I don't think this is an issue of not enough power. For some reason MakeMKV is simply not registering this external drive at all.

Just for the fun of it I took my drive apart to see the exact make/model information. I have the exact same drive as Axe.

so I have it working with MakeMKV now but had to connect it to the Sata ports inside the computer just to get it to work.... Everything except MakeMkv works fine with the USB.. so I still come back to how MakeMKV is accessing the Drives.... the ONLY difference from the computer standpoint appears to be "Location" with USB it shows as a Mass USB device. (as noted earlier)

I had this exact issue and contacted MakeMKV support about my external USB DVD drive not being recognized and they recommended starting off by turning on debugging mode (which involves restarting the program).

Needless to say, when I re-launched MakeMKV my external USB DVD drive was automatically picked up and showing as ready to be read by the program. I guess I was thrown off by Windows automatically recognizing the USB drive when it plugged into my laptop.

The easiest (and cheapest) fix around: Make sure your external USB DVD drive is plugged in BEFORE launching the program and you should have no issues whatsoever.
