Is that possible to do? I know you’ll be having drives available soon, what is the specific drive you’ll be selling?
Would not be possible for the public it seems
But that may change

That's because it is not a UHD model. LibreDrive does not equal UHD compatibility!! It's not looking good for cross-flashing either.

If I was you, I'd wait a bit longer as apparently support for newer Pioneer drives may be coming very soon, maybe in the coming weeks! Then the XD08 will get libredrive support. Although, there is nothing stopping the XD08 from working now with CD/DVD/BD discs, just not UHD.
I'm a bit confused (I plead Old Timer's Disease  ). Are you saying that if I bought the XD08s now, I will be able to rip, all CDs, DVDs, and BDs with the current version of MakeMK even though Libredrive won't be enabled? Is the possibly coming support for the newer Pioneer drives, including the XD08, going to be in the form of an update to MakeMKV or will it be the ability to flash the current XD08?
Yeah, you can use it to rip CD/DVD/BD except for the newest AACS v82 as it will revoke the drive certificate. This is the main feature of LibreDrive. When enabled, MakeMKV doesn't care about any revoking and allows you to continue using the drive.

Don't know. Probably a firmware flash.
These drives were starting to disappear so I bought a couple (from Adorama, not Amazon) and had to send them back because I couldn't rip a BD I had previously successfully ripped with one of my older drives with them (I didn't bother with trying a CD). The drives would just spin with nothing happening.

Are you sure you have restarted them (plugged off and then back) after SDF.bin update?

Hunh? What update?

Keep in mind, I'm on Linux Mint.

Mind you, this SDF.bin update only enables libredrive which helps with standard bluray. It does not enable UHD readability for non UHD model Pioneer drives.

That didn't answer my question. What is this update? where do I get it? Does get installed on the computer or the drive? How do I install it? I'm fine with standard bluray.

What is it? viewtopic.php?f=19&t=39869 It adds libredrive support for Pioneer drives with post 11/2022 firmware.

There is nothing to install. The download link for it is in multiple locations, including the Ultimate UHD drvie Guide 2025 toward the bottom of the first post. Just download it and put it in the MakeMKV data directory (where the dumps are located) then power cycle the drive and restart MakeMKV.
