guess so, but i was kinda interested in the 100GB disc ripping without hiccups.
so maybe there is some truth in the way "Buffalo" constructed their firmware.
just always trying out new things. no harm i guess, hehehehe!!
buffalo did nothing they asked lg to write there name on it thats all BU12 is 1.02 BU10 1.00 ect...

After reviewing the differences between the uhds that did work and the ones that didn't I realized it's only the bd-100 discs that are showing no disc. Anyone have the same issue and found a solution? Is there any danger trying the different firmwares inside the slim exterior folder?
May i know the 2 movie titles of the 4K UHD BD-100 Discs that cant be read on the "Stock LG Firmware"?
then i can buy those titles and try and replicate the issues that you were facing.
i can Re-Flash the LG BU40N to the LG Stock firmware and then try the Buffalo Firmware.
its very easy to use the SDF Tool. so i would like to try it. then i can report back for everyones info.

It was the boy and heron and parasite. I should also say I'm fairly new to this and maybe I just improperly flashed the 1.01/1.03 firmwares. It definitely didn't just need a reboot though cause I tried that like five times.

will try to order for it as soon as possible and try to replicate to see if this buffalo firmware is the way to go for flashing lg bu40n drives.

Alright so the Buffalo firmware did nothing. It was all just false positives. Turns out my drive was a dud. I returned it and got a new one. The new one easily recognizes all my triple layers discs. There must have been some kind of defect on the blue lens in the original. Not bad enough to prevent reading 2 layer but enough to make triple unrecognizable.
