HI!
I have the same problem. After several weeks using Verbatim 43890 to play/record Blurays with success,
I´ve just tried to read a UHD disks with this Makemkv result:

Quick question: I'm thinking about buying a burner that can read 4k films. Does the firmware upgrade from BDR-UD03 to BDR-UD04 always work? What are the disadvantages? Or should I just buy a 43888 with
Pioneer BDR-UD04?

Pioneer BDR-UD04?
Yes it works with all drives but if you find a 43888 why bother?

@Fox_Mulder: But have a good look at the drive before buying if you want a 43888 with Pioneer drive only. Because since recently there are 43888 with LG's BU40N released also.

IMO the BU40N is the best of the LG family so it wouldn't be a mistake to get one.
