I wonder if there is some sort of authoring error with 00015.m2ts on that disc?

Did you use MakeMKV to make a decrypted backup?

What happens if you try to make a .mkv of 00015.m2ts using MKVToolNix?

Re: Second copy of same Blu-ray hangs during ripping

Post by Niggi Biggi »

Years later, I have an update, along with a solution to my problem which I hope will help others!
Trying a different Blu-ray drive, in this case the ASUS BW-16D1HT over the LG BH16NS55, made no difference when ripping.
Making an unencrypted backup helped, and although I couldn't simply rip to an MKV from here as I encountered many problems, I eventually found this workaround:

  • In MakeMKV, make an unencrypted backup of the whole disc
  • In ImgBurn, make an ISO from the unencrypted backup
  • In MakeMKV, open up the ISO-file, select the 19.6 GB file (angle 1 in this example) and rip with ONLY video and subtitles:

  • In MKVToolNix GUI, drag and drop the ripped file, as well as "00000.mpls" into the "Multiplexer tab".
You'll find "00000.mpls" inside of the folders you've used to make the ISO-file from, in my case in this destination:
    C:\Users\Username\Videos\Blu-ray rips\backup\FLAKLYPA GRAND PRIX\BDMV\PLAYLIST
  • Now, deselect all video, subtitles and chapters included in "00000.mpls":

  • Lastly, press "Start multiplexing" - you should now have all of the audio included on the Blu-ray in your new MKV-file

When I initially ripped to an MKV from the ISO, the MKV would crash right before the "race" chapter from the movie, and MakeMKV would also stall trying to rip the MKV containing audio, but without the audio it ripped just fine.
I think there's either some sort of a mastering error or possibly obscure copy protection involved on this disc, because I've never had this problem before.
