Hi,
My drive with fw 1.03 is defective. The new drive from Amazon has the fw 1.04.

Could i use the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin from the mk-firmware-pack-20200720??

Are these the correct steps?

1. Flash (sdftool)with HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin, using SDFtool Flasher, no "enc?" required.
2. Flash with DE BU40N 1.00 using SDFtool Flasher, no "enc?" required.
3. Reboot PC or simply disconnect drive for 10 seconds if using USB connection.

If you can't follow the guide just buy a premade flasher.
Your steps are wrong.
And what was your last drive doing that made it defective?
If it was time out on logical unit it's not defective it means your usb ports were not giving enough power.

The case did arrive yesterday and i flashed the drive like that:

1. Flash with HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin, using SDFtool Flasher, "enc?" required.
2. Flash with DE BU40N 1.00 using SDFtool Flasher, no "enc?" required.

But on end of every step i got a error message. Makemkv shows me the 1.00 FW and i can rip UHDs.

But i got now 2 UHDs which doesn't work ripping (but the ASUS did rip them correctly).

Should i flash the drive again maybe?

What are the errors?
I'm guessing you USB port is not giving it enough power and your getting device not available or timeout on logical unit errors
