Ok, guys. Seems all of you have something in common:

Non-MK firmware
Windows
Internal (non-usb) dirive

Some specific (same for all of you) SATA controller.

If you can post details about your SATA controller, this will help. No worries if you can't get this info.
Should have a test version in about an hour, please check this topic.

Got it to work. found that my bios was set to IDE instead of AHCI.

Change this in BIOS and now working fine.

If you get inaccessible boot drive after changing bios setting, like I did, try the following.

Code: Select all

1. Run Command Prompt as Admin
2. Invoke a Safe Mode boot with the command: bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal
3. Restart the PC and enter your BIOS during bootup.
4. Change from IDE to AHCI mode then Save & Exit.
5. Windows 10 will launch in Safe Mode.
6. Right click the Window icon and select to run the Command Prompt in Admin mode from among the various options.
7. Cancel Safe Mode booting with the command: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot
8. Restart your PC once more and this time it will boot up normally but with AHCI mode activated.

Just pushed the update, should be working now. Likely, just a reboot would be sufficient.

Still not working for me. The drive is an ASUS BC-12D2HT. I'm on Linux (Gentoo). The switch on/switch off did not change anything. According to lspci, the SATA controller is an Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family 6 port Desktop SATA AHCI Controller (rev 05) (prog-if 01 [AHCI 1.0]).

After powering off/on this is also still not working for me and I am stuck on the decrypting stage. Attached are my drive details and I am running on Windows.

Do you have SDF v72? Please post the log file.

If you don't know how to do this, there is another option - navigate to the MakeMKV data directory (usually C:\Users\yourname\.MakeMKV) and delete the file _private_data.tar from there. Then reboot (if the drive is stuck).

Same question for you - do you have sdf v72? If unsure, do the following:

Code: Select all

rm ~/.MakeMKV/_private_data.tar
reboot

Deleted _private_data.tar. Now, it won't even try opening some discs (which were previously working), whereas with some others, I get

Code: Select all

Just noticed now that after the backup is complete Error Code: 233 appears about 5 times. Never seen this before so not sure if it is related.

Hi Mike,

I just re-enabled webserver updates to get the latest sdf, still no joy here. I get the same behaviour as in my earlier post.

drive details:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BDDVDRW UH12NS30
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: K9MEA8F2118
Firmware date: 2114-04-24 19:00
Bus encryption flags: 16
Highest AACS version: 63

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1939
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Partial
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
OS: Linux mint 19.3

Please see attached log file and also the output of lspci for my SATA details.

All the best.

Hi Mike

I am also having the same problem. DVD and BD discs start, hang on Using direct disc access mode and then the drive dismounts and MakeMKV crashes with fatal error.

OS: WIndows 10
Drive: Internal Sata

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BDDVDRW UH12NS30
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: K9F21175123
Firmware date: 2113-06-13 14:57
Bus encryption flags: 16
Highest AACS version: 72

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1939
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Partial
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
I've tried deleting _private_data.tar and restarting but no joy.
Thanks for the great software.

Ok, I never seen such SATA controller, trying to fix the code...

Hopefully will have an update in a few hours.

Meanwhile, here are instructions for workaround.
LibreDrive has an "emergency brake" feature that allows one to disable it completely for a specific drive, to make sure LibreDrive code does not touch drive firmware at all.
It was designed to be used as a last resort, for cases like this.

To disable the LibreDrive for a drive, first get your drive ID. This can be done using "makemkvcon -f --list" or by looking at the log file

Code: Select all

SDF v072: HL-DT-ST_BDDVDRW_UH12NS30_1.03_211404241900_K9MEA8F2118
In this example "HL-DT-ST_BDDVDRW_UH12NS30_1.03_211404241900_K9MEA8F2118" is a (unique) drive ID.

There are two ways to disable LibreDrive for a drive - by adding Sdf_stop line to a MakeMKV config file

Code: Select all

Sdf_stop = "HL-DT-ST_BDDVDRW_UH12NS30_1.03_211404241900_K9MEA8F2118"
or by setting an SDF_STOP environment variable

Code: Select all

#~
SDF_STOP=HL-DT-ST_BDDVDRW_UH12NS30_1.03_211404241900_K9MEA8F2118 makemkv
either way the drive will not be touched by (presently buggy) LibreDrive code. If you have more than one drive, both options take a list of space-separated Drive Ids.

This way you do not need to disable updates or meddle with tar files.
