Looking for a Pioneer 4K drive

[nicholfd]

.
I emailed the company over the weekend to ask whether they are planning distribution in the EU, but so far I haven't received any response. We'll have to wait and see what happens next.

As did I, this morning (EDT). I e-mailed to market_center@sxosi.com from the "Contact us" at the www.pezyotta.com website:

"Hello!

Does your company plan to release/sell consumer optical drives for computer use?

Thanks,
Frank"

[zittrig]

I would be very cautious of the web site/domain: www.pezyotta.com

The web site is poorly hosted & poorly performing. They claim to be Shanxi who purchased Pioneer's optical drive business. I would expect better of a company that was able to financially afford to buy Pioneers optical drive business.

The claim to be in business since 2023. That domain was only registered in 2025: Creation Date: 2025-03-15T08:51:15Z. See:

Code: Select all

whois pezyotta.com

The community does not believe that Shanxi purchased Pioneer's optical drive business for consumer optical drive production/sales. See ASMCOM's post here: viewtopic.php?p=191100#p191100

There's a lot of online scamming currently happening in this hobby, and domain registration/web hosting are cheap...

Hmmmm, Google says that website belongs to Shanxi ....

Translated from German:
"The domain pezyotta.com serves as the new official web address of the Chinese technology company Shanxi Optical Storage Information Industry Development Co., Ltd. (SXOSi). The company switched its original domain (sxosi.com) to pezyotta.com in 2025. This was done in the course of the acquisition of Pioneer Digital Design and Manufacturing (PDDM), which was renamed in April 2025 in Pezyotta Digital Data Machine and Pezyotta Digital Data Trading (Hong Kong) Limited"

"Google says"... "Google" or any LLM (if that's maybe what you used) just regurgitates what they find online, or from wherever they were fed.

None of the above know if what they found or what they were fed is accurate or not. Caveat Emptor.

Thanks Google for translating "Caveat Emptor"

Blind trust isn't the right way, also like blind distrust and blind assumptions and the information in the www, which are detailed for me, is all we have.
But let's wait for an answer from Shanxi. Thanks to you two for asking directly.

Ah, here we go. Please see https://www.pezyotta.com/uploads/202609 ... 45ca9d.pdf and https://www.pezyotta.com/uploads/202609 ... 5d3b9a.pdf

Now, is there anyone who speaks Chinese who would be willing to make an English summary of this, please ?

(In all seriousness, please do notice the "Ultra HD", as I said. )

EDIT : Fixed second link, sorry.

translate.google.com did a good job of translating the PDFs. They appear to be copy/paste versions of old Pioneer documents.

Quote of CPU requirement from f50b6584370d220a187dcdeb9a45ca9d.pdf (BDR-XS09CMB-S):

The Core Duo T2700 was released 2006...

Thank you for this. That's not the only odd part either, they mention Intel SGX as a requirement for playing UHD Blu-ray discs (and SGX doesn't really exist anymore), and as an example for everyday use, they actually say "many computer games are sold on CDs".

If this website really does belong to Shanxi, these PDFs seem to be placeholders. I may have gotten my hopes up a bit too quickly.

I repeat myself here but as stated before after checking the PDF. They look 100% identical to the old Pioneer models. This simply will not be tolerated by Pioneer at all.

All models have a "C" in their model name, so that may indicate that these drives will be available only on the Chinese market, if they become available outside of internal channels at all.

I emailed the company over the weekend to ask whether they are planning distribution in the EU, but so far I haven't received any response. We'll have to wait and see what happens next.

The fact that they are clearly marketing them as "UHD-compatible drives" and that they have an English webpage at all makes me feel a bit hopeful...

EDIT : Also, thank you very much for e-mailing them.

Today I received this response. It doesn't really tell us anything, but once a knowledgeable representative gets in touch with me, I'll let you know.

Hello!

Thank you for your inquiry. We have carefully reviewed and fully understood the information you provided. We will arrange for a dedicated representative to contact you as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on your email for further updates.

I wrote at morning an email also and answer was fast, arrived a few minutes ago. The answer was basically the same.
I asked specific for 4K drives, the part of the answer was "....Regarding your question about .... we do have 4K UHD optical drive models suitable for computer use, including consumer PC applications."

I received almost the exact same reply 5:41AM EDT today:

Dear Frank,

Thank you for your email and your interest in our optical drives.

Yes, we do have optical drives designed for computer use, including consumer PC applications.

To recommend the right model and provide pricing and ordering information, could you please clarify the following:

2. What brand and model of optical drive did you use in the past or are currently using?
3. What are the main functions and intended use of the drive?
4. What is your estimated purchase quantity?

Once we have these details, we will be glad to advise on availability, pricing, and the ordering process.

I agree - they look identical to old Pioneer models. To me, this makes the company/website look even more shady, lazy or just a shitty company.

And at least for me in the US, the website performs HORRIBLY. The PDFs took 10+ minutes each to download on 1Gb internet connection. The files are only 4.7Mb & 8Mb.

I have received official confirmation that the minimum order quantity is indeed 50,000 units
