It seems when I updated my firmware [without checking here] the Pioneer firmware zotzed by LibreDrive support.

Did you try an UHD disc? It should work.

I am testing it out now. In an abundance of caution I had done nothing other than booting up makemkv and seeing if I could read the drive from the GUI flasher.

Testing a disc now.

Will I want to flash at some point?

No. If it reads UHDs you are just fine.

No. Just never update your drive's firmware. You would ruin it.
