Lucky enough to happen to have a pre 2022 drive I had originally gotten to burn some M-Discs.
Paranoid of doing something to screw it up but I assume it needs to be patched or something to allow it to rip or should it with with UHD as is?

So i got a question. maybe its the long weekend....... anyway, i posted in the bdr-xd05s thread because i thought or think the drive got cracked and it could now read UHD.
Then i started reading this thread and it states even though the drive and firmware were added to the sdf file, and the libredrive is a yes in the drive details of MKV, unless the drive has a U in the model it can't read 4k BD's.
can someone clarify for me please. with this drive read 4k UHD disks or do i need to buy a new drive. Been buying multi-packs the last year, and if i can get this drive to work it would be awesome. Would love to see if my local streaming can support it
thanks all

Libredrive does not equal UHD readability!! If the Pioneer drive is not a UHD model, then no it cannot read UHD discs unless you can cross-flash it to a UHD model. For that, you should contact Billycar11.

got it.
so one other question. if i look through the sdf file to find a drive i am interested in. And i buy it and it has the correct firmware, i shouldn't have to do anything then correct? no flashing etc... If i read and understand correctly, when mkv sees the drive and its in the sdf, it does all the memory magic (per the whats libredrive post) between the software and hardware and the drive becomes unlocked/region free and can rip regular dvd/bd, and 4k UHD?

Pretty much all new LG/ASUS (and offshoots like Archgon, Buffalo etc) drives will require flashing. The only drive that does not require flashing and works OOTB is the Verbatim 43888 (containing a Pioneer BDR-UD04 inside). There are now two versions of the Verbatim 43888, one contains a Pioneer drive, the other an LG BU40N which needs to be flashed. If you want a Pioneer drive, check with the sellers on this forum as store bought are not compatible.

Haven't updated in a while. The rest of the drives I ordered showed up. The BDR-212V also had pre December firmware on it, so there's that.
