Hi,
I got this Verbatim/Pioneer drive recently and was hoping that it would work for opening UHD discs with MakeMKV.
It just starts the process and then ends on failed to open disc.
From what i could understand it is not to new to work. Could someone here please help me?
Thanks for any advice.

Yes, your drive is already UHD capable. Just clean the disc before trying again. Make sure the drive is getting enough power by using USB-C if possible or using USB-A port direclty off the motherboard or a powered (35+ watts) USB hub.
Also, ensure the OS initializes the disc
before opening MakeMKV.

This is regarding a Pioneer BDR-209MBK.
MakeMKV 1.17.8
Info:
Drive Information
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-209M
Revision: 1.53
Firmware date: 2019-03-07
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F00
Firmware version: ID04
----------------
Message:
Saved FW dump file as .../.MakeMKV/dump_FW_9F51EC0AA73BFBC989E2.tgz
Please send the file ".../.MakeMKV/dump_FW_9F51EC0AA73BFBC989E2.tgz" to
support@makemkv.com
What is doable with this drive? Recommendations for firmware changes? Should I send the FW dump to the support email address?
CD-audio discs and DVDs are reading slowly (2X for CDs, 1+ hour for a dual-layer DVD), but accurately. I have not yet tried the Pioneer Drive Utility which is available at
https://pioneer.jp/device_e/product-e/i ... iveUtility . There is not an exact match on that web page for this drive model. The closest seems to be:
"For BDR-209EBK, BDR-209UBK(BDR-2209)"
PioneerBDR-209-211_DriveUtility_v1.2.0.3.exe
(8.43 MB)
updated Jan 23, 2018
So I am unsure about how general Pioneer's utility software is for these model numbers -- whether "209" would cover "209M", "209D", etc.

Your drive is a 212 type that is named 209 and mainly sold as an IOData in Japan? Isn't it. It needs to be flashed to be UHD capable. Check your PM and then use the Pioneer 212 utility.

Thanks, got it. But first, how certain do we need to be about this model and the corresponding flashing software and new firmware before flashing the firmware? The label on the drive chassis is normal for a Pioneer-branded drive. And there are a number of models named "BDR-209*".
The only thing I am fairly confident about regarding this model number is that the "BK" is not important. In other words, I think "BDR-209MBK" just means a "BDR-209M" that has a black ("BK") front.

I can see it based on your firmware code. It's not a regular 209 but a camouflaged 212. Take it or leave it. 209s have 8600 or 8601.

Hi all,
hopefully someone could offer some advice on this drive
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-X13U
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: ...
Firmware date: 2021-12-19
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 76
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9401
Firmware version: ID43
From what I understand being on an early pre-22 (barely) firmware this should be suitable to use?
I did see in another thread (
viewtopic.php?t=27378&start=345) Mike requested users to email dumps of their drives (which I did to the support mkv email address).
Any information would be appreciated.
