Are you sure? 8801 indicates a S11 /211 drive.
i will have to check i have not powered mine on yet and probably wont for some time have a lot of xd08 to do
i assumed its the same hw as the x13 series as its in the same case and similar release date

X13s are 94xx. 8801 seems to be a S11 /211.

So, jury's still out on this one then it seems?
I sent a bin dump to Mike when I got it.

Just submitted the firmware dump from my Pioneer BDR-X13JX revision 1.04 to
support@makemkv.com.
It was also just under 1K, but when I extracted it on my computer it came out to about 4.3MB.

I'm still getting errors on trying to open UHD on the BDR-213...what am I doing wrong?
(in the log window makemkv did download the new sdf on startup)
The error:
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A40..002000800 to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT ESTABLISHED' occurred while issuing SCSI command AD010..080002400 to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'
Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Saved AACS dump file as
LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted.

With my USB drives, I disconnect them, restart MKV, then try again, and after a couple tries, it'll work. If I understand correctly, if you start MakeMKV first, then insert the disc, assuming it has the right key, or can download it (downloading HKs can take seemingly forever), that shouldn't happen.

My BDR-212U has stopped working.
I know the firmware is too recent to allow UHDs, but it was working fine for bluray/dvd until 1.18.2. Now I can't get it to work at all. I've tried manually installing sdf.bin. I've tried completely removing my .MakeMKV directory and starting over. Nothing works. Drive reports its information (below), so I know it's still alive in some sense. But inserting a blu ray causes a the light to blink a few times and then the drive icon just spins forever.
Fedora Linux 36
MakeMKV 1.18.2 (also tried 1.18.1, known good release with blu ray that worked before).
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212U
Revision: 1.04
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2022-12-20
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F01
Firmware version: ID83
I can't get it to dump the firmware, or I'd send it in. Just guessing, but is this drive model close enough to one that works to cause the wrong firmware to be loaded? I guess I could be unlucky enough that I've had a hardware failure that coincides with upgrading makemkv, but I'm doubtful.
I have an older drive that continues to work fine:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212U
Revision: 1.01
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F01
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.01/ID58
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Any guesses?

It's never been necessary to "let the os see the disc", but tried it and same result. makemkv shows "scanning CD-ROM devices" forever. (I've scanned many multidisk tv series and have never quit makemkv, inserted the next disc and restarted makemkv. )
The optics aren't dirty. Older drive in same environment works fine.
It's too much coincidence for this not to at least be tangentially related to the recent Pioneer updates.

Do other discs still work in this drive? Did you try cleaning the disc? H?ave you power cycled the drive since updating to the latest SDF.bin? Just because the older drive still works fine doesn't automatically mean the optics aren't dirty.
If you continue to dismiss options provided without even trying them, you won't get much more help.

> Do other discs still work in this drive?
No.
>Did you try cleaning the disc?
No. I don't have anything to clean with. It's not the problem, never has been. I don't smoke or have cats.
> Have you power cycled the drive since updating to the latest SDF.bin?
Yes. Many times during the course of debugging.
>Just because the older drive still works fine doesn't automatically mean the optics aren't dirty.
Sure. And they became dirty just as I updated. That's seems high probability.
>If you continue to dismiss options provided without even trying them, you won't get much more help.
If "clean the lasers" is your first response, what are you saving for later?
What -would- help is an SDF.bin from, say, August or earlier that's safely before any of the Pioneer updates. I'm looking through old backups now to try to find one. Never occurred to me I'd need to archive them.

When asking for volunteer help in a public forum, more humility & less attitude/sarcasm usually gets you further.
Good luck with *your* "problem".
