What is the deal with the KEY?

Hi,

I found a temporary solution for myself. I set my system date back (by four weeks), so that it was earlier than July 31, 2025. That allowed me to continue working.

Was this on Mac or Windows? I tried setting my pc manually back before that time and I just get, “Evaluation period has expired. Please purchase an activation key if you’ve found this application helpful. You may still use all free functionality without any restrictions.” Is there a temporary workaround using date/time on windows10? Really wish I had bought the program when it was available

Pure speculation, but another thing to consider as to what may be the issue here is that makeMKV's server is apparently in Russia according to this post...

However, this whois would seem to add some veracity to the statement. Maybe we should refer to Mike as "comrade Mike"?

Mike has exclusive control over keys, pricing, etc. All I or any other sysop have control over is the forum, and that's limited.

Especially knowing this, I really hope Mike is okay.

I am 110% buying a license if they can get another batch of keys.

Known about this software for a long time, but only recently started my own local Jellyfin server and acquired a 4K capable ASUS drive.
Setting the date back has worked, so I have been able to get going, but I wonder if that will become an issue at some point.

I think, for what it's worth, that a distinction needs to be drawn between the site being hosted in Russia (as are other sites, such as LibGen) and Mike himself being Russian. As far as I'm aware, people on the subreddit have been indicated that their, admittedly limited, knowledge has indicated that he is in the UK.

On a PC running windows, just close makemkv. Change your system date. Then open makemkv and it should work. Once open you can change the date back because it seems to only check the date upon launch. You may have to reboot first. I have only done it after a reboot or after turning my PC on.

One of the mods on the subreddit said that he spoke to Mike on about the 1st of August, shortly before the payment site ran out of keys. He said that he is 99.99% sure that Mike is still alive, but said that he has not been able to renew contact for a little over a week now. The message that he keeps posting when people make queries on Reddit is “be patient, I’m sure that Mike will be back soon”.
