I'm following the guide but my Mac won't open any of the files I downloaded

On a Mac, you have to use the command line instructions. That involves using the Terminal application.

If you can 'borrow' a Windows PC and get your drive connected to it, you can install MakeMKV and use the SDFtool Flasher.
