I'm following the guide but my Mac won't open any of the files I downloaded
On a Mac, you have to use the command line instructions. That involves using the Terminal application.
If you can 'borrow' a Windows PC and get your drive connected to it, you can install MakeMKV and use the
SDFtool Flasher.

I borrowed a PC but am unsure of which firmware to flash from the "This Is All You Need Firmware Pack" folder, I'd assume ASUS? I ended up flashing the Asus 5.25 BW-16D1HT but the disk tray is not opening it just flashes LED's

Never flash a firmware for an internal drive to an external one. You could brick the drive. Try the recovery mode. First choose the wrong firmware BW-16D1HT and for the reflash the BU40N 1.03MK.

The platform MT1959 points out to a LG drive, which is working in the enclosure. Try flashing to LG BU40N 1.03MK. All you need (flashing tool, firmware pack), you'll find here in the first post ....

I used recovery mode and it successfully finished then I used Write for the LG Slim BP50NB40-N850 but an error message pops up with "Command Produced Error Code 0xxff05c103"
