Will try the color clipping tomorrow after work. Already in bed now.

Yes, that was the 1000 nits cmv2.9 pattern.

Got delivered an hour ago. I'm working the whole day, but should be able to set it up tonight and watch a 4000-nits movie and will do all the testing probably this weekend. :)

RESET_9999 wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 10:50 pm Can you try the color clipping patterns cmv4.0 vs cmv2.9... On my C2, cmv2.9 is clipped and cmv4.0 perfect: https://slow.pics/c/iYxAEaJt
https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/fold ... RiSeEAg72W
Uncalibrated Dovi cm 2.9: flashing bar from 68 onwards.
This sounds like the cmv2.9 1000nits MDL pattern? Try the 4 000 and 10 000nits versions, it's a lot worse.
Calibrated HDR: flashing bar from 65 onwards. That's raised blacks. Uncalibrated HDR is exactly the same.
Is the pure black test file also raised in HDR10? I hear the G5 too has raised black in HDR10. I don't care much about HDR10 though, because I only have DV in my library.

Color clipping patterns :
No clipping in any of the test files on cmv2.9 and cmv4.0
So both are perfect here.

Flashing bar for 4.000 nits and 10.000 nits MDL on cmv2.9 : very faint bar starts from bar 69 (so only 1 bar worse than 1.000 nits MDL).

The pure black test file is NOT raised in HDR10.
It is slightly raised in Dolby Vision and SDR though. But I will leave it like this. I prefer slightly raised black to less shadow detail.

Interesting, I guess the cmv2.9 bugs are less important on a brighter TV. My C2 crushes black at 80 with the 10 000nits pattern
Let see how it is on the G5...

Is my G1 so much brighter than your C2?

Have you tried reverting back the calibration for Dolby Vision to default?

Like I said before, after the calibration dolby vision had a lot more crushed black.... So I reverted back to factory settings for dolby cinema mode and it was fixed.

ha i thought you had a G4...

I just had a quick look on my G5 (FFM OOTB) and RGB clipping behaves exactly as my calibrated C2. cmv2.9 clipped and 4.0 perfect.

OK. I see what I see. Strange, but I guess I should be happy with my results

I guess for some reason the cmv2.9 bug is far less obvious on the G1/C1 series from 2021 compared to the 2022 series?

I guess that means I better step up and get everything installed and start converting stuff. Not that I'm getting a G5 any time soon but my G2 behaves the same way, obviously. And who wants that...

blacks are not raised in DV but crushed, even in cmv4.0 :(
There is actually no difference at all in DV black crush on this TV... cmv2.9 4.0, 10 000 4000 1000, all crushed the same at 72-73.
HDR10 and SDR are ok

So nice to see LG improving year over year. LOL That sucks. So I guess that answers my question in the other thread about calibration. :D

yeah hopefully this can be calibrated out.

DV Chroma Weight and Trim saturation do not work, not even in cmv4.0 ...
Banding in HDR10 is way worse than the C2, DV is clean
posterization in HDR10 as bad as the C2, DV is clean

You'd think that LG would want to make these things better year over year. I mean this COULD be the killer DV display combined with the Ugoos. Anything with 2500 nits to play with should absolutely rock it. I'll be curious how this evolves and whether they fix some of the issues with firmware updates. I remember the G2 wasn't flawless at launch, either.

Yeah, this TV is insanely bright, it's like having a flashlight in your eyes when a 10% window comes on!
