So I found the bluray file was 24 frames behind the stream file. I ran workflow 2-6 and put in -24, but got another error below. Is it asking me to take the dovi_tool_2.9_to_4.0.exe from the tools folder and put it in the same folder as the movie files?

get the latest beta, the path to the 2.9 to 4.0 tool was incorrect in 2.0.7. And don't forget to turn on the conversion at line 192

Alright. Before reading this reply of yours, I moved the 2.9-to-4.0 tool to the same folder as the video files and it ran successfully. Checked the rpu plot/frames of the final mkv file and it seemed correct. Will watch the movie later this week and see if there's any problem. What are the visible image quality improvements of cmv4.0 compared to 2.9 that I should be able to notice?

there wont be any problem, I already watched this movie and many others.
cmv4.0 trims is how the movie was graded originally and how the colorist saw it on his monitor. 2.9, is just generated from 4.0 by an algo.
And as I said the other day, cmv2.9 has crushed black ( at least the two LG TV and hisense TV I tested).

when you transfer 4.0 to 2.9, yes.

L3 = offset to L1... L1+L3 = Algo automatic tone mapping when the content exceeds your TV capabilities
L8 = artistic trim pass(es), manually done by the colorist for a more accurate tone mapping when the content exceeds your TV capabilities
L9 = Mastering display primaries color are signaled shot by shot for better alignment with the metadata bitstream carriage.

Can anybody help me understand the more technical details of Dolby Vision (and HDR10[+])?

Here is my basic understanding:

1) HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision metadata is stored as packets (NAL/SEI units) inside the HEVC stream.
2) Dolby Vision calls its metadata "Reference Picture Units (RPU)". HDR10(+) metadata doesn't have a specific name.
3) These metadata packets can be extracted (dovi_tool and hdr10plus_tool). dovi_tool creates RPU binaries and hdr10plus_tool creates JSON.
4) Dolby Vision Profile 7 also contains an extra video HEVC video layer (MEL and FEL).

Here are my questions:

1) Is the video stream separate from the HDR data? For example, can you theoretically remove the HDR packets and still watch the video?
2) Does the RPU and FEL/MEL stream contain all of the Dolby Vision data?
3) What does the Dolby cm_analyze tool do?

WEBMux is the highest quality you can achieve via streaming service, like remux in bdremux. Both of them got the DoVi 8.1, but the second one is also HDR10+ Profile B compatible. There’s also DoVi 5 available

oops I downloaded the 2nd one instead of the WEBMux. Does it matter since I will only use the file to transfer the cmv4.0 rpu to the bluray version?

@RESET_9999 I just read your comment under the Transfer CMV4.0 bloc tutorial:

PS: I made a small mistake. At the end, you should verify the scene cuts with the BL using the synced P5 or P8 RPU and not the final P7 RPU because the P7 cmv4.0 rpu will have untouched L1L2 and scene cuts.

I see you dragged the Fast.X.2023.BD cmv2.9 P7 FEL _ CMV4.0.bin into workflow 2-3. Is that where it is wrong? Which file should be dragged in instead?

2-6 will output two RPUs, one that says ''verify_sync'' and another one that says '' L3_L8_L9_transfered''
isn't it obvious which one to verify sync and which is the P7 cmv4.0 rpu ?

On my end there's no verify sync file... Something must have gone wrong then.

you have to sync the web rpu directly in 2-6... Read the other note in the comments. When i did this tutorial, the script could not re-sync or fix the framecount mismatch in 2-6
