I am stuck and have been for (sadly) over a year now. Here is my situation:

I have an LG WH16NS40 svc NS50 manufacturer 2016. I do not recall what the original firmware was when I bought this earlier this back in August 2019.

I have been able to use the SDFtool Flasher to flash WH16NS60 1.02 as I see Marty says it is best for this drive. I have use previous downgrade enabled firmwares and tried the MK firmwares and am not sure if I screwed something up along the way.

I am able to flash the drive successfully with WH16NS60 1.02 and it seems like everything SHOULD be working but when I put a BD in the drive, the drive sounds like it starts to read the disc and then I get the message in MakeMKV, "No disc inserted." I am able to open up DVDs with no problem. I am not even trying UHD discs, just BD discs.

Here is my drive info:
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: DVD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS60
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: SIK9EG******
Firmware date: 2118-10-29 19:36
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

I have been looking up and down the forum and not found a solution for this problem. For what it is worth, I am using this enclosure:
OWC Mercury Pro 5.25" Optical Drive External Enclosure (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XR ... UTF8&psc=1)
MakeMKV v 1.15.3
SDFtool Flasher (v1.2.0)

I am hoping I did not brick my drive somehow. I had been able to open BD before messing with the drive firmware but LibreDrive was not enabled and I vaguely recall not being able to rip BDs. As it stands now, I have an expensive DVD ripper for my HP laptop. Thanks in advanced for any support I can get on this.
The BD laser could be dead or maybe it needs cleaning. You could try one of those drive cleaning discs that have the little brushes embedded in the disc to see if that helps.
Cheers :D

MartyMcNuts,

Thank you for the feedback. I will order a BD laser cleaning disc and see if it fixes this. If it does not fix it, I will have to by another drive.

Strange. Is your MakeMKV installed in the default C:\ location? Are you on MakeMKV v1.15.1 or greater? Does it work if you run it as administrator?

UPDATED, found my answers on the forum. Leaving post up just for other noobs like me :-)
Sorry for the noob question, but:
I am not sure what firmware to flash or where to get it.

I am using an external USB enclosure an OWC Mercury Pro case.
Can I flash with this enclosure? It was recommended by another member of the forum.
If not can someone send me the link to approved drive enclosures?
-->Found answer: yes this enclosure supports drive flashing, at least through SDFTool Flasher

This is the drive I just bought as it is showing in SDFtool Flasher:
G: ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.10_211901041014_XXXXXXXXXXX

So what firmware should I be using to support UHD ripping and other MakeMKV options?
-->Found answer I think (untested yet): I found this thread here which is a list of firmwares for MakeMKV: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 19&t=19113
-->For my drive I am trying the ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin
-->I am testing the firmware above today, but if anyone knows of a better firmware version I should be on please let me know.

I am going to keep reading the forums, but was hoping I could get pointed in the right direction here.
Thanks!

If you use AnyDVD at all, or plan on writing discs at all, then this is the best firmware for this drive. If you don't care about disc writing or using AnyDVD, then another firmware option is WH16NS60 1.02 MK. This firmware is a bit faster and removes the sleep bug.
Cheers :D

I am planning on writing to disks. So I think I will stick with this.
I tested backing up a Blue Ray UHD yesterday and it worked flawlessly with Make MKV

I am not sure what the "sleep bug" is? I'll do some searching.

Presumably, switching to the WH16NS60 firmware on the Asus drive is reversible if disc writing capability needs to be restored? I may drop it onto mine to see how it compares to 3.10.

Hi, guys!

I bought an ASUS BW-16D1HT E-Green (BULK + S/W) (I can't register it, ASUS.com didn't recognize serial). https://i.imgur.com/MUB5ljk.png

Once installed it prompted a message about updating firmware and I thought it was best idead to do it (I don't remember what versión it was) but now it's v3.10 after updating.

Is there any differences beetwen Green version and other versions?

The procedure is to put "sdftool_flasher.exe" and "DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_1.01.bin" in the same folder, double click on "sdftool_flasher.exe" and... https://i.imgur.com/TVBEi9q.png

Do I choose "WRITE Firmware", "READ Firmware", "RECOVER Drive" or "Please select a firmwate to write?

Thanks a lot for your help and efforts.

Yes. I use NS60 1.00 on my BW16D1HT.

thanks @SamuriHL. Just looked at the MK pack and I have a choice of 1.03 as current for the WH16NS60 vs 1.01 and 1.02 in the old folder. I only use makemkv, any recommendations as to which of three would be best for my Asus?

Just found WH16NS60_1.00 in the DE pack, so looks like I have 4 versions to choose from! Guess I can suck it and see.

Doesn't really matter. 1.02 is probably preferable in that situation.

EDIT: Just saw your newest post. Use 1.00. That's the best firmware.

NO!!!!!!

The attached ASUS 1.01 firmware is only for recovery of an old drive. Do not use it on your drive.

You can download the MK firmware pack on the forum. Put the SDFtool Flasher in the folder with the MK firmware pack and flash drive with ASUS 3.10 from the MK firmware pack.

thanks, will run that on my 16D1HT for a while and see how it goes. I also have an Asus BC-12D2HT on 3.11MK, would that also benefit from being cross-flashed to WH16NS60?
