Email the dump file to svq@makemkv.com as per the stickied UHD FAQ at the top of this forum. Within a day or two you should see it decrypted, just ensure that you allow web access in the preferences!

I don’t have my UHD set yet but I hope everyone has remembered that many episodes have forced subs. The blu ray release is unusual in having these embedded in the main track, so the forced check box in makemkv creates the extra track. I don’t know if this is retained for the UHD discs or if they have switched to a separate sub track for the “foreign language” scenes, which would then have to be tagged for default display during playback.

Sending in files again, mike please update when possible thanks
You might have a bad disc. I was having this issue, with the same disc. Got my replacement from amazon and the new disc decrypted fine.

I'm on my 3rd attempt now. I reset all the drives back to default speeds and got my 3rd GoT set from Amazon today. So far I have only seen problems with S1D2 opening and S1D3 ripping and up to the middle of the 3rd season. For S1D2 I tried on all my drives which are a mix of 3 WH16NS60, 1 BW-16D1HT, and 1 BU40N so there must be some manufacturing issues with these discs. I found slowing the drive down didn't eliminate the read problems completely but it helped.

Once I get the replacement set tomorrow hopefully I can swap the problematic discs with the replacements and have a complete set that works. I asked in another post but if anyone knows what the speed encoding for 1x is I'd appreciate that. I know 0=8 is 2x speed but I haven't found out how the number right of the = is encoded.

It should be 0=4. I guess people didn't quite get how this setting works. Let me see if I can help. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I get this wrong. LOL

Blu-ray 1x read speed is:

Mbit/s kB/s KiB/s MB/s
36.000 4500.0 4394.5 4.29

See that MB/s at the end there? That's pretty much what the 0=X value should be. in the case of 2x 0=8 because 4.29 x 2 is more or less 8.

Thanks! I thought the value was times speed << 2, I didn't realize it was directly mapped to the MB/s.

Good news is I still haven't found any errors besides on season 1 and I'm wrapping up season 4 right now. So hopefully dropping to 1x speed or getting better quality discs in the replacements will finish this set off finally.... I probably just jinx myself typing that :)

By the way I'm liking that BU40N drive that you purchased recently. I never figured a tiny drive like that would be reliable.

I have a replacement set coming supposedly tomorrow but I don't know if it'll arrive on time or not. I have a disc that is scratched so I'm over it and asked for a new set. Once I finish that one disc I'll send the original set back and be done with this project.

As for the bu40n, yea, that thing rocks. It's the PERFECT drive for my laptop. With USB-C I only need the one cable to drive speed and power. I never though such a drive would hold up to constant abuse but Billy says he hasn't seen one die and I believe it. Very impressed.

Hopefully the replacement set does the trick for you. Amazon has a policy where you can't get a replacement for a replacement so I had to send both sets back and get refunded then start all this ripping all over again.... damn near lost it when discs in season 1 started failing :) But this time I'm flying through the discs with no speed limiters and I have 5 drives going at once. Tonight when I'm around my laptop I'll be trying out the two problematic discs on an external pioneer UHD (non-friendly) drive and PowerDVD 20 to see if they play at all.

Mike would be VERY interested in that information about the Pio drive. So please post back your results on that one.

This is the drive I recently got for just normal playback of UHD: https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-BDR-XD07 ... B081R7HGV4

I tried to do a backup using makemkv with that drive and it complained left and right about security keys so I didn't look too much more into it. If that sounds like the drive he's interested in he can PM me with details about the tests he would like to see run. It's a nice little drive except the top pops up instead of a tray coming out like the BU40N I recently bought.

He just wants to know if discs you're having trouble reading in standard desktop lg drives work in the pio for playback.

I took the worst failing disc and played it back on my laptop with the external slim Pioneer drive fine. I just spot checked it but this disc I couldn't get makemkv to open this disc.

Out of the series I have one disc that didn't open and two that failed while ripping at full speed. My replacements should arrive shortly and if the same disks give me problems I'll slow the drives down to 2x speed and try again.

I've just finished going through my set and had no trouble ripping any of the discs except the ones which had the "volume key unknown"

Season 4: Discs 2, 4
Season 5: Discs 3, 4
Season 8: Discs 1, 3

I have emailed in the AACS dumps over the past couple of days so hopefully they will be integrated soon. :D
