Dolby Vision and 1.15.3

Hello,
I want to extract the DV Version of "Matrix".
I ripped all 3 versionen (see pictures), but all are the same: "HDR format: SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible" - no DV.

the first post of this thread I don´t unterstand - sorry

I have no .ts or .mp4 file - makemkv makes a mkv file of the UHD Bluray.

How are you determining that the output from MakeMKV does not contain the dolby vision data?

Only the most recent version of MediaInfo correctly reports dolby vision data in a MKV file.

https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfo/ChangeLog You need version 20.09.

Media Info says DV v1.0

MPC-HC with MadVR says HDR10, I don´t see DV - so I wondered.

Will the LG OLED65CX9LA detect the DV stream inside the mkv ?

The problem is my Bluray Player can not play DV, its Samsung! So I have to rip the Blurays to test DV.

Do you know why the Matrix stream is 3 times listet by makemkv ?

the Rip with a older version of makemkv does not include DV:

There are 3 playlists for the matrix because there are 3 different language options, this is common where the titles are in say German or french for German it French people.
Madvr won’t support Dolby Vision as there is no PC support for it.
Your LG won’t directly play the mkv in Dolby vision... you will need to convert to mp4 with ac3 audio.

This is a learning curve, questions are obviously welcome and most people in here are very helpful but no one can do it for you.

I'd just like to report my experience with a Shield 2019, MakeMKV 1.15.3 and Plex 8.8.0 (general release). I had MKVs made out of M2TS files (from the BDMV folder structure), that both originally and in MKV had dual track Dolby Vision. These obviously don't work.

• MakeMKVing these to a new MKV also did not work. In fact it removed the second video track but did not combine it to one, DV-compatible track.

• Directly converting the original M2TS (also dual track DV, found in BDMV/STREAM) also did not work. Same result as above.

• Re-mounting an ISO from the BDMV + CERTIFICATE folder structure and passing the ISO through MakeMKV produced perfect single-track, DV-compatible, Plex 8.8.0-friendly MKV files.

There's the famous "red push"/"incorrect colors" issue on DV with the Shield... but I'm a happy man for now. Thanks, mike.

They actually are/have Dolby Vision, as you can see by the info between parenthesis on the lines you highlighted. The thing is how to get them working with your setup. Like someone else said, you still can't play DV MKVs on LG OLEDs, they only accept DV MP4s.

Your LG won’t directly play the mkv in Dolby vision... you will need to convert to mp4 with ac3 audio.

If you just need DV mp4 with ac3 audio for playback on LG tv by far the easiest route is DVDfab.
If you don’t have the funds for DVDFAB then you need to get down and dirty.
This link is where I started last year, it has moved on quite a bit since then but that guide (ignore adding Atmos) will give you a good starting point...

I just thought about buying makemkv, now I am advised to spend my money on DVDFab
that's a shame, i like makemkv

so there is no easy way from makemkv (with DV) to convert in a mp4 DV for LG

then it is probably cheaper to buy a LG Bluray player and to rebuy my Samsung..

Buy an Nvidia Shield TV. That will play your MKVs. Plex supports Dolby Vision. I'm sure Emby and Kodi will be there soon too.

No, you will need to use ffmpeg & Dolby muxer via command line.

It isn’t hard once you get used to it.

He will get a better quality picture playing back on his LG than on the shield, LG C7, C8 and C9 support dual track mp4 also.
