i just realised....

when i mux hevc file from ys's tool with mkvtoolnix, makemkv recognizes this as dvhe.07.00, BL+RPU, but created mkv is dvhe.07.00, EL+RPU in mediainfo... this is known thing...

but when i ran THAT mkv through makemkv again, makemkv recognise the mkv correctly, as dvhe.07.06, BL+FEL+RPU, and outputted MKV is also correct... dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU in mediainfo. so mkv_patcher is "not needed"... but requires more space and time.

Buzzie ..re adding atmos audio back in

heres my round about method

basicclly make the mkv from full uhd rip with makemkv

using mkvtoolnix gui ,add in that resultant mkv files then select what you want to keep...in this case the atmos tracks and maybe subs ,thatt will save as an mka files

go thru all the normal steps now with ys tool untill the very end when were back to making the final mkv
now just add the final makemkv file with the mka file ,back in mkvtoolnix gui and your back to full atmos and dv

ie did this fine FINALLY on terminator Dark genesis..changing the FEL down to a MEL 8 with atmos
but same with the mel 7s
after 4 -7 mins movie starts to stutter ,and audio goes out of synch by 2 secs
i beleive this is issue at chapter breaks
ie Alita mel 7 starts fine DV and atmos looks great...4 5 mins in movie goes out of synch and audio lags by at least 2 secs
If i slide the movie forward a bit it all resysnches for a few mins and then goes back out of synch ,and audio out by 2 secs again ...and happens each time i slide forward
and each time if i check theres a new chapter up

This is on Zidoo Z9X ,sony DN 1080 amp ,Panasonic Z1000 OLED

hope this helps some

@yusesope
i was wondering more... :)

would it be possible to extract RPU metadata from the secondary HEVC stream on BD? that can be then used directly with x265 to encode directly to profile 5 or 8.1

The new launched iPhone 12 can produce Dolby Vision Video. So we can have more DoVi videos created by official proven method.

The iPhone 12 spec says:

Code: Select all

HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 30 fps
Sample DoVi video shot on iPhone 12, it is profile 8.1, with HLG compatibility.

Code: Select all

Ok Guys,

I have another question.
I have the full UHD rips of the BTTF Trilogy

I decided to put it in MakeMKV (latest version) and made an MKV. I kept the video ofcourse (only showed the DV file) and the atmos/truehd and ac3 track with subs

When it was done i fired up Mediainfo and it showed the following :

Code: Select all

I started the movie on my Shield 2019 Pro.

Plex showed HDR with Dolby Atmos
Kodi, with altered (i think) exoplayer as default player, played Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos.
Plex on my LG C9 TV played only in HDR with AC3 sound. With TrueHD on i could not play it but that is my settings somewhere i think.
I only started the movie so i dont know if there are any OutOfSync issues.

Any idea why i dont see 2 video?
normally there are 2 video right?

Is it a good rip/remux?

I did not use any other tools.

Check Plex player and Plex Server versions.
Does Plex Server detect DoVi data? Check file info in Plex server.

65kbps for DV EL LAYER is NOT FEL. :)
I think i will go with what the software is telling me, since its been made by people who know what they are doing and i trust their judgment. If anything changes in the future I might decided to re-rip it but for now I am happy with the results :)

I thought the Apple TV 4K only supported profile 5? Or can it also do profile 8.1? If it can’t do profile 8.1 now I’d expect it to come in an update very soon?

Looking at the specs, it does seem Apple TV is listed as profile 5 only, so ???? How is that going to work when airplaying etc? HDR only or do you think it will convert on the fly. :?

Pretty annoying if the video you shoot on your new phone can’t be played back in Dolby vision on the 4k ATV. Then again, there is suppose to be a new one coming in the next 5 months

You need the latest 8.8 version of plex. If you weren’t on the beta, i think the public releases just came out today.

The iPhone 12 review from Verge says DoVi type 8.4

https://www.theverge.com/21524288/apple ... pro-review
But the iPhone 12 shoots video in a newer version of Dolby Vision called Profile 8.4 that’s built on a standard called HLG, or hybrid log-gamma. HLG works differently than PQ systems; it was developed by broadcasters like the BBC and NHK to be backwards compatible with SDR displays so they would only have to broadcast one video stream.
Could you plz upload the sample video file to mega.nz or google drive, I want to test it on shield tv 2019.

One more thing, are you Chinese? Mr Hong? I am from Mainland of China.
I am not a native English speaker.
Sorry for my bad English.

Thanks a lot for the info!
Looks like this profile is pretty new, not even specified in the Dolby Vision profiles/levels doc (which updated last year).

Here is a link of the original file:

The video is not shot by me. I got it from another group on Bilibili (see "BV1rv411k7GL").

Check Plex player and Plex Server versions.
Does Plex Server detect DoVi data? Check file info in Plex server.
Thanks for the reply.
I checked the versions
Plex Player is latest version : 8.7.2.20952
Plex server is also latest version : 1.20.3.3437
After re-anilysing the file it showed the DoVi data. But playing the file was still in HDR :(
You need the latest 8.8 version of plex. If you weren’t on the beta, i think the public releases just came out today.
Thanks....gonna download that one tonight and see if it works.

EDIT: Update Plex app to 8.8 and worked indeed. Thanks!!
