Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Hello everyone, its being a long time since i was here (vacation in norway and other "19" related stuff)
but i just want to quickly ask, whats the latest way of converting we are trying out atm?
i'm atm using ffmpeg and yuescopes script(0.3 i think) and then tsmuxer with eac3

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I've just made a Doctor Sleep rip (DV and HDR10+) and it's also only black screen on Firestick with Dolby Vision, even though it's MEL.
Might be something caused by HDR10+, because other MEL samples work fine.
If you convert it to 8.1, it also behaves the same on the Firestick.
However, it works in ts on my LG (doesn't support HDR10+ anyways) for both the internal player and Plex.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Yup, I am pretty sure that there is some sort of conflict going on between HDR10+ and DV. Maybe someone here can shed some light on this? for now just wait and see.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I too believe that there is some form of conflict between DV and HDR10+ in the same film. We must hope that Yusesope finds the solution.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Should be trivial to just skip the HDR10+ NAL unit with yusesope's script, since the parsing is well done already
I'll send a patch to yusesope, hopefully it's good enough.
However this is destructive, it might be better to just switch a bit on/off. Will see.
Here's some test samples I've created if you guys want to test: https://mega.nz/file/NEMUCBCD#95KVXGBmS ... wFyEKlsfNs
The one with HDR10+ removed should play fine on the firestick.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
neither of the test files played on the new Zidoo Z9x which is dv hdr 10+ capable.....supposedly
just thought id try em both in case

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Tried both files and as you predicted, the one with HDR10+ removed played flawlessly on Firestick4k, while the other one gave black screen.quietvoid wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 11:21 pmShould be trivial to just skip the HDR10+ NAL unit with yusesope's script, since the parsing is well done already

That is pretty amazing development tbh, but when you say this method is destructive does it mean that it destroys DV metadata or something? Lets hope that you and yusesope can work together to get this patch integrated into one of his tool soon
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
This is great, but honestly this and yusesope's work should be integrated into the player. This way the device can select DV: FEL, DV: MEL, HDR10+, or HDR10. This should all be done in memory on the fly and the source file should contain all the data. I hope to see this in Plex & Kodi one day.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Tested and, as you predicted, the one with HDR10+ removed, play in Firestick and triggers DV.quietvoid wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 11:21 pm

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
It's destructive in the fact that it completely removes the HDR10+ data, and that's not reversible.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Well there is always a trade-off and as long as we have the original backup that shouldn't be an issue. But in the end, like you mentioned that an On/Off switch approach would be much better. Cant wait to test it myself when its ready
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Using a Shield Pro 2019 and Plex, I have so far only been able to get DV playback from MEL content. Is this the best I can do at the moment with this setup? No FEL playback?
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
The 2019 Shield has no issues playing back FEL and MEL content. Whether or not it's doing it properly is a whole another discussion.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I can play both FEL and MEL on the Shield too. No way for me to know if the Shield actually decodes the full 12 bit, though. But it doesn't even matter since the colors with both profile 7 and 8 are not accurate. Both get ugly red artifacts or color shift. Only profile 5 seems to be decoded properly.
