so here are some comparisons. Pitch black room without any light, OLED TV, Camera settings locked, Tripod, and Bluetooth triggering.

Dual-layer FEL untouched VS Dual-layer MEL converted
https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/6565

the untouched FEL is brighter & has more punch, no doubt. But I think this is normal because I'm seeing the same kind(if not more) of difference when I compare the Spears and Munsil FEL & MEL

Spears and Munsil dual-layer FEL untouched VS Spears and Munsil dual-layer MEL untouched
https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/6564

Dual-layer MEL untouched VS Single-layer MEL (el+RPU) untouched
https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/6566

also from the bluray discs I inspected, FEL DV hevc stream is the actual movie with a white/grey tint on it while MEL DV is just a static white/grey image.
We still can see the video in the MEL conversion so that could be the reason why it doesn't play on the x700. I can add some random MEL track to any HDR10 hevc stream and it will still play in DV (single or dual layer). with some flickering but it triggers DV.

real FEL / real MEL / MEL conversion

my friend had some LLDV tonemapped to SDR capture samples for me today. Good news for the Firestick Tv owners, it looks like it does DV the right way even though I see a small difference on white in the comparison #1 compared to the x700.

x700 vs shield vs firestick vs Chromecast. (use number keys on your keyboard to switch between the image)
https://slow.pics/c/QBBIxewf

SKYFALL MEL DV.... 3 comparisons of each device:

x700 vs Firestick: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

x700 vs Shield: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

x700 vs Chromecast: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

Firestick vs Shield: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

Shield = worse of all, oversaturation and ugly red artifacts everywhere. -----> btw I didn't look for a movie with artifacts, I took the first MEL movie I found and it still had red artifacts.
Chromecast = oversaturation but no red artifacts.

Spears and Munsil, x700 Original MEL vs FEL to mel conversion: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/7017

same method:
-all the players send LLDV.
-Vertex tone map DV to SDR using the same settings.
- The signal is captured using the same settings.
I have a question, why in the first comparative, the fel to mel is more darkness, and now is the same?

Thanks

no, it's the same and I did not compare fel to mel vs original mel on the first quote you are referring to

camera comparison between mel original vs fel to mel: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/6581

Capture card comparison Original MEL vs FEL to mel conversion: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/7017

EDIT:
the comparison you're probably talking about is fel vs mel... I may have messed up that comparison though. It's much easier to do a mistake when i do camera comparison (exposure EG) than the capture card comparison method.
also keep in mind that the camera(lossy) comparisons are amplifying the difference while the capture card(lossless) show the exact difference.

Yeah sorry, my quote is not good.

So in your opinion, what comparison is more accurate?

again, the first comparison (ragico sample) is FEL vs fel to mel (in other words: FEL vs MEL)

and the other one(spears) is original MEL vs fel to mel. (in other words: MEL vs MEL)

you can't compare those.

Has anyone had any success on making DV work in 'Alita & Godzilla King of Monster' on Firestick4k? All I get is black screen with sound only. Is it because it's a HDR10+ and DV title? Tried Muxing in MP4 but getting HDR10+ and no DR :/
I've just made a Doctor Sleep rip (DV and HDR10+) and it's also only black screen on Firestick with Dolby Vision, even though it's MEL.
Might be something caused by HDR10+, because other MEL samples work fine.

If you convert it to 8.1, it also behaves the same on the Firestick.
However, it works in ts on my LG (doesn't support HDR10+ anyways) for both the internal player and Plex.

Yup, I am pretty sure that there is some sort of conflict going on between HDR10+ and DV. Maybe someone here can shed some light on this? for now just wait and see.

I too believe that there is some form of conflict between DV and HDR10+ in the same film. We must hope that Yusesope finds the solution.

Should be trivial to just skip the HDR10+ NAL unit with yusesope's script, since the parsing is well done already :)
I'll send a patch to yusesope, hopefully it's good enough.

However this is destructive, it might be better to just switch a bit on/off. Will see.
Here's some test samples I've created if you guys want to test: https://mega.nz/file/NEMUCBCD#95KVXGBmS ... wFyEKlsfNs
The one with HDR10+ removed should play fine on the firestick.

Tried both files and as you predicted, the one with HDR10+ removed played flawlessly on Firestick4k, while the other one gave black screen.

That is pretty amazing development tbh, but when you say this method is destructive does it mean that it destroys DV metadata or something? Lets hope that you and yusesope can work together to get this patch integrated into one of his tool soon :D

This is great, but honestly this and yusesope's work should be integrated into the player. This way the device can select DV: FEL, DV: MEL, HDR10+, or HDR10. This should all be done in memory on the fly and the source file should contain all the data. I hope to see this in Plex & Kodi one day.

Tested and, as you predicted, the one with HDR10+ removed, play in Firestick and triggers DV.
