Please owner Zidoo z9x. How satisfied are you? I find out that perhaps no DV can be played there :). It either cuts or stops completely. I think maybe I'll go back to Shield. What do you think is better Shield or Zdioo z9x?
Hello, I received my zidoo z9x yesterday.
I did some tests and no DV file passed. Even the dvtest demo files from here. I have a black screen.
For others they open only in HDR10.
The firmware is in beta, but for dolby video it is more alpha. In addition there are bugs with some televisions (LG, Panasonic)
And it comes from the zidoo because my internal player reads these dv files well.
The Shield is better, especially they are very reactive, before zidoo released products quite well finished, now they release products not usable and have served as beta tester.

Just that I've never had a problem with Shield. Zidoo will only play DV to me when the movie is mkv MEL.

the mel 7 atmos audio ones seem to start desynching audio and stuttering after 4 -5 mins from ones ive tested so far

a MEL 7 hd ma 7.1 ......Casino royale ripped with makemkv .53 brought up DV on my panasonic z1000 OLED and had zero stutter or audio syncs at well past the 10 min mark and even sliding forward seemed no issues
actually off to watch full movie now,just to confirm it..........ill edit here if it does play full lenght DV ok or not
Looking like Zidoo is close to getting mel 7 working

Had a quick play with trying to use the older ffmpeg to make a MEL 7 atmos over to a MEL 5 one since 5 8 9 are supposedly supported by zidoo ans wasnt having any luck with the 8.1 bat file method last night

Casino royale MEL 7 makemkv .153 ...looked aewsome on the panasonic z1000 oled
Triggered dolby vision on tv ....played with only a very few stutters maybe one or two every 10 15 mins...onlu other issue was maybe 4 times during the movie there would be a 1/2 sec pause and dolby vision info would re trigger up on tv

so very close to perfect

Hi, experts. You are my only salvation. Please I have Synology, but I updated to DSM 7 and unfortunately I can't PLEX (yes my mistake). There is a chance that I should play DV mkv via KODI. How to connect KODi with SYNOLOGY. I'm running through SHIELD. Thank you so much for your help or advice.

Hello, quick feedback on my Black Screen problem with DV files (any format).
In fact I solved the problem by changing the HDMI cables (which however were not at the bottom of the game).
I put the cable provided in the Z9x.
My concern also comes from my full HDFury, which I do not control. I use it for sound and video splitter because I am using Sony MDR-HW700 headphones.
Once changed the HDMI cables by putting me on the HDFury in: 'scale' -> passthrough, 'edid' -> automix,, 'hdcp' -> 2.2:
- DV videos work:
* mkv test P7 MEL -> ok
* mkv test P5 -> ok
* MP4 encodes x265 P8 (dvhe.08.06, BL + RPU) -> ok
* MKV P7 makemkv 1.15.3 (dvhe.07.06, BL + EL + RPU) -> ok
But I don't have HD sound on the headphones

By putting the HDFury in: 'scale' -> auto-scale, 'edid' -> automix,, 'hdcp' -> 2.2:
* mkv test P7 MEL -> ok
* mkv test P5 -> ok
* MP4 encodes x265 P8 (dvhe.08.06, BL + RPU) -> ok
* MKV P7 makemkv 1.15.3 (dvhe.07.06, BL + EL + RPU) -> Not ok, GREEN screen
*MKV P8 yusesope + makemkv 1.15.3 process UHD-BD TO PROFILE 8.1 -- > ok
I have sound regardless of the audio format

If anyone has any idea to fix the green screen or tell me how to set up my HDFury integral 2.
Thank you

'dv-bl-compatible-id' would be the base HDR10 HEVC stream, correct? Or is it asking to be pointed to the DV metadata stream? Or is this just a 'yes/no' flag instead?

I apologize to those who have asked me questions but these days I have very little time. Sorry!

When the "Plex fever" is gone, we'll start testing again :mrgreen: .
I have some pretty good ideas that I hope to be able to put into practice :lol:
Just wanted to give some feedback on the new mode 2 (profile 8.1). It works very well.
From a FEL MKV, converting to 8.1 and back to MKV works with Plex on the Firestick 4K.
The converted 8.1 file can also be used in TS on LG webOS Plex and internal player, both trigger Dolby Vision.

So from the MKVs created by MakeMKV, there is a lot of compatibility fixes possible. :)

EDIT: Info in this post was incorrect. The process I outlined below resulted in crushed blacks. I've reread info in the thread and am now using yusesope's 8.1.bat. I'm also now both demuxing and remuxing using tsmuxer. The only reason I was using mp4muxer was because I did not know LG OLED's could play .ts files. And demuxing with FFMPEG results in video audio desync by some finagling with the PTS (presentation time stamp) value, which is the first I've heard of that term and goes way above my head.

My current procces is: Demux using tsmuxer. Create single layer hevc using 8.1 bat. Convert audio, in this case I converted a stereo lpcm to aac using FFMPEG. Remux to .ts using tsmuxer. If Tsmuxer detected a programmed delay in the audio in the original file you have to manually enter it again here, as the audio file seems to lose the info when you demux. In this case it was 3000ms which is very noticeable. But now I have at least one movie (Escape from New York) playing perfectly. Hope this helps anyone else with a CX or similar.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I am happy to report on my experience with the inbuilt player of LG OLED CX through a HDD. I have seen discussion of other LG OLEDs but not the 2020 model. This site's awful search function does not help.

In short it would appear that the 2020 models do not support profile 7. I saw someone mention this on a thread at AVS. But using profile 5 I am able to trigger Dolby Vision Using the instructions and files from yusesope on page 199 of this thread (thanks Yusesope!). I combine the base and enhancement HEVC layers using his Mux.bat from his tool 0.0.4 alfa. Then I use his command line for his mp4muxer, except changing the DV vision profile to 5. His 8.1 test also works but as I understand it profile 5 is superior.

Keep in my mind I do not have the tools to independently verify the Dolby Vision is working as intended. So there is that. But it looks good to my eyes.

Right now my bigger problem is with converting audio to an AC3 which will play nice with the LG CX player. I am struggling with a DTS-HD MA file, perhaps because is uses Atmos? I'm unclear if the Atmos needs to be eliminated and if there is a special process for doing so. The file with no audio track plays video and triggers DV fine, however if it's muxed with audio the file may or not trigger DV, stutter and probably crash.

so there must be something happening between tsmuxwer and yusesope tool which i cannot root out.
Is anyone having similar issue lately or maybe it is a bug?
Have you tried to create an mp4 file after the FEL->MEL conversion?
If the official Dolby tool does not encounter any problems, it means that the raw HEVC stream that my tool returns is correct.
Give it a try and let us know!

3 films: The Shining, Doctor sleep and Jaws.
They are DV Mel and also HDR10+ compatible.
None of them plays in Firestick 4k.
Audio only with black screen.
Anyone can explain why?

My android TV has the exact same DV implementation as Firestick 4k. I've tested The Shining which I ripped using 1.15.2 and it works flawlessly. Haven't tested the other 2 titles.
HDR10+ should be backwards compatible.
I don't think that's the problem, but you can always create a file using BL only (without DV).

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i BL.hevc -c copy output.mkv

If the screen stays black then the problem is HDR10+.
If you upload a sample, I can check it out.

Thanks for the feedback! I had imagined the 8.1 profile just for those devices like TVs that have problems with UHD-BD MEL\FEL.
I'm glad it works.

For now, however, I'm doing some tests to see if I'm able to "cook" custom mkv and mp4 files with Dolby Vision.

The idea is to accept a Single Track\Dual Track file (with DV metadata intact) mp4 or mkv or ts or raw HEVC as input, give the possibility to select the audio tracks and subtitles of interest, choose, as happens now, the output mode (FEL->FEL, FEL->MEL, MEL->MEL, UHD->profile 8.1) and return an mp4, mkv and maybe even ts as output (instead of the actual HEVC).
The idea it's quite demanding and I don't know if I'm capable of it :mrgreen: .
Unfortunately there is so much to know and I only approached this world a few months ago (with some hours available on Saturdays) :( .

THIS however is the result of a first test :D .
It is a DV FEL Matroska file (version 4 with CRC and error detection at the first level).
The new Mediainfo correctly detects all the info but the definitive proof is to play it on the Shield (because FEL).
By the way, it's the intro of Terminator Dark Fate: it is normal that it is "glitchy" :wink: .
Am I on the right track?
Thank you.

This sounds quite ambitious.
Maybe a good starting point is to just accept a MKV (in addition to raw that exists already) and be able to output the raw converted HEVC file. That on its own would save a lot of time (demuxing MKV, demuxing BL/EL, converting/remuxing 8.1), and might be simpler to do.

Afterwards, the only step left would be to pass this file through MakeMKV, and it can be reused in the original MKV, simply replacing the video (I'm not sure if mkvtoolnix would keep the headers intact if the video changes to a raw file?).
That way you don't have to handle audio, subtitle, etc.

For what it's worth, the file behaves the same as a FEL MKV on the Firestick. :)

my friend had some LLDV tonemapped to SDR capture samples for me today. Good news for the Firestick Tv owners, it looks like it does DV the right way even though I see a small difference on white in the comparison #1 compared to the x700.

x700 vs shield vs firestick vs Chromecast. (use number keys on your keyboard to switch between the image)
https://slow.pics/c/QBBIxewf

SKYFALL MEL DV.... 3 comparisons of each device:

x700 vs Firestick: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

x700 vs Shield: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

x700 vs Chromecast: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

Firestick vs Shield: https://screenshotcomparison.com/compar ... /picture:2

Shield = worse of all, oversaturation and ugly red artifacts everywhere. -----> btw I didn't look for a movie with artifacts, I took the first MEL movie I found and it still had red artifacts.
Chromecast = oversaturation but no red artifacts.

Spears and Munsil, x700 Original MEL vs FEL to mel conversion: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/7017

same method:
-all the players send LLDV.
-Vertex tone map DV to SDR using the same settings.
- The signal is captured using the same settings.

Thx again.
Is it possible to make captures with streamed p5 content samples? Like, let's say, Mandalorian.

Only hope with more attention to this issue nvidia will have to fix it one day.

@Yusesope
Your "test" file plays in both shield and ugoos am6+ and triggers DV.
In Firestick black screen.

Tried BL only from Doctor Sleep and in Firestick it triggers HDR10+, so it is not possible to compare this DV film between shield (known problems) and firestick.
We need a Mel conversion that triggers DV in firestick.
