Use Track List Names From DVD

Post by Witterings »

Hi, Newbie with 1st post to be gentle :)

I mainly use this for ripping my music DVD's so I can store them locally on an Android TV, if I just burn the disc if gives the tracks names of Chapter 1, Chapter 2 etc.

I've found out how to go in manually change it clicking on each title and with the drop down on the right hand side set to name typing in each track name.

The DVD's though, most of them the start menu will ask if you want to play the full concert or offer you the option of a list of tracks so the information is available on the disc.

Is there any way to set MKV to use that information with the correct track name as opposed to naming them Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 etc.?

If anybody know how to would be much appreciated and save me an awful lot of time :D

It's been a long time since I've done any DVD authoring but my memory is that menus are picture-based, not text-based - so any text is an image of text, not actual text. There isn't any text data that's directly connected to titles or chapters on DVDs.

Interesting point and makes sense ...... Any idea how Windows media Player see's it as it shows each track with the correct title. shame you can't burn DVD's from it, only CD's.

EDIT: I've just tried it with another DVD in Windows media player and it's the same it just shows the track numbers not their titles .... I wonder if I opened one before that I'd ripped and manually named each track and that's why it saw it ... so frustrating.

As a side note there also doesn't seem to be any way to copy and paste the whole playlist at once as that'd make it a lot easier as well.
