3D is broken on the 1.15.2

Making 3D mkv using 1.15.2 doesn't trigger 3D anymore. 1.15.1 still does work

Yeah I was about to post the same thing. When you look at MPC stats you can see the stereo codec but the headline codec is still AVC not MVC. I've downgraded back to 1.15.1

Same issue using MadVR with dsplayer or Media player classic. Tried two different 3D blu rays. The file size generated is correct so both video streams do appear to be in the file but the file is played back as 2D. I reverted to 1.15.1 and the file size generated was the same but this time playback was working for 3D.

Having the same issue. Requesting info in mpc-hc shows the stereo video information there, but it won't play it back. Further, info tool gives an "Unknown element (ID: 0x41e4)" that is not present in 3d rips from previous versions.

Confirmed -- I had to revert to 1.15.1. Multiple 3d blurays. Player: Kodi.

1.15.2 removed the "legacy" MKV 3D descriptors , that was a mistake. Next version 1.15.3 will put them back.

Any version (except 1.15.2) can rebuild these descriptors - so if you have an MKV file made by 1.15.2 and it is unplayable, just open this file with 1.15.1 and save to another MKV - it would have all necessary descriptors and would play.

Sorry about mess-up.

Is there somewhere to download 1.15.1 from the official site? I don't think I still have the installer. Thanks

Same for me with Kodi. The MVC codec does not get used with rips from 1.15.2, they just use the standard H264 codec and show in 2D.

How do you know if the rip was encoded properly? I use MediaInfo to analyze files, but I ripped one using v1.15.2.:

This info was taken on the exact same file after I reinstalled v1.15.1 and ran that same file through and re-saved it as per this post:

Is there something in here that I should be able to see as "proof" the file is correct now? if I look at a rip that I made last year for example:

Mike, I did this with two files last night. Please see my last comment with screenshots.

I noticed that when installed v1.15.1 then opened the files I made in v1.15.2, I had to re-select the MVC track. It was not chosen by default. That is something I would have to do from a BR source, but wanted to add that here because if someone "just open this file with 1.15.1 and save to another MKV" but did NOT re-select that track, I'm guessing it would not be in the new file either.

Hey folks,
I'm new to backing up my 3D movies, but was just about to start trying for the first time. Most threads I saw on this seem to be from 2018 or before, so I found this new thread and thought I'd ask a couple newbie questions.

1. Am I reading correctly here that this is plain broken on 1.15.2 and I should downgrade to 1.15.1 before attempting to backup any 3D movies at all?

2. I know this is slightly tangential, so please don't bring your wrath down on me for asking, but I saw that there's a plex naming convention specific for 3D movies where you can label them as top/bottom or side-by-side. Is there a way through MakeMKV or some database to actually know what method my various disks are using to ensure the TV is told the proper way to display it? OR alternatively, since the threads I saw talking about this were also quite old, has tech advanced enough that perhaps the MKV files will automatically tell the TV what mode to switch into when they play, regardless of how I named the file?

Thanks!

Where did you "see" this in Plex?

Here is a link to the Plex naming conventions:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming ... dia-files/

I am a 3D freak and I have looked into this a LOT. Using an external player (Roku, Shield etc) Plex itself doesn't really do anything with 3D files. It doesn't see them as 3D, can't detect it and with limited exceptions, the TV can't see anything coming from Plex as 3D. If there is a naming convention that will magically switch your TV into the proper 3D mode I don't know about it!

Using the "Plex for Kodi" add on within LibreElec or OSMC on a Raspberry Pi3B+, it is possible for this to work. I have done it. That is a unique case though and not a supported solution that I'm aware of. I also don't think it cares about file naming. In that setup it can actually detect the file format. I have heard of certain model, network-connected 3D Blu-Ray players that can connect to a UPnP server and play via Plex client that way and supposedly outputs 3D that can trigger the TV to change, but I've never tried that.

At this point not even the vaunted Vero4K+ can handle 3D-MVC properly. They are working on it.

I would be extremely happy if someone made a box based on a Plex client that could do everything a Shield could do, but ALSO play 3D-MVC. I would have one on every TV and these conversations would be simple.......;)
