Asus BW-16D1HT vs LG BH16NS55

#1 Post by Tsimi3000 » Mon Aug 24, 2020 9:10 am

Hi

I have been exploring this forum since I want to start ripping 4K UHD movies using MakeMKV but I'm kind of lost with all the information available. I guess all the answers are available in this forum but I need a personal reply to be confident enough before buying the drive.

I'm able to buy either Asus BW-16D1HT or LG BH16NS55. They both cost almost the same so the price is not an issue. I have understood that I could basically make these both the same drive by flashing/crossflashing them with the same firmware. Is this a correct assumption? Will they function the same with the same firmware? Should I be aware of any differencies between these two drives that I should consider before buying? Is WH16NS60 1.02MK best update for both of these drives? SDFtool Flasher can be used for both?

I ended up ordering BH16NS55. Now I'm about to flash it with WH16NS60 1.02 MK firmware using SDFtool Flasher. I would have one question I hope I could get an answer to since I don't want to do anything irreversible. In the SDFtool Flasher do I need to mark "enc?" when changing firmware from the current 1.04?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Seems like it's me and myself in this conversation=) But I thought I'd share my experiences if there is someone else with same issues. As an impatient man I couldn't wait for any advice so I first tried to flash WH16NS60 1.02 MK (with "enc?" marked) but even though the flasher didn't give any errors but looked like it was a successful flash it didn't actually do a thing. The firmware was the same 1.04 after the flash. Then I tried to flash the drive with BH16NS55 1.03 MK (with "enc?" marked) and that did change the firmware and then I flashed it again with WH16NS60 1.02 MK (without "enc?" marked) and it worked as well. Now I have ripped my first UHD and the second is on its way.

No, you do not need "enc" checked and you can directly flash to WH16NS60 1.02-MK.
Cheers :D
