Peter Rabbit (2018) 4K

Post by Mr_Orange » Sat Aug 15, 2020 5:41 am

When I insert the 4K disc, MakeMKV sees 4 titles with 16 chapters, as follows:
  • 46.0 GB (angle 1) - 00245.mlps - 1,336
  • 45.9 GB (angle 2) - 00245.mlps - 1,337
  • 46.0 GB (angle 1) - 00246.mlps - 1,336
  • 45.9 GB (angle 2) - 00246.mlps - 1,337
The run times are all the same at 1:34:42.

Any ideas which one I should rip please?

My workflow is as follows and it has been super helpful to determine the correct playlist in situations like this:

- Do a full decrypted folder back-up of the disc
- Open the folder back-up in MakeMKV
- Find the two or three largest titles
- Review the "Title Information" in the right-hand panel for all of the titles
- Compare the "Segment Map" numbers and look for differences between the titles (Example: One title shows 55,60,61 and the other shows 55,59,61)
- In your OS file explorer, open the folder which contains your full disc back-up
- Navigate to the "BDMV" folder, and then to the "Stream" folder
- Open the two differing .m2ts files (59 & 60 from the example above) and review them in VLC or another video player
- This will show you exactly what is different between the two playlists.
- Then use MakeMKV to process your backed-up folder and create you MKV by selecting the title that has the language you prefer.
- Also, if the segment maps are identical, check which available languages and subtitles are on each playlist. Discs are often authored with subsets of languages isolated to one playlist.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

The issue is that there are 4 titles that are almost identical in size with similar files and segment maps, as per my OP.

I didn't see the segment maps listed in your OP. Understood.

Have you played back 336 and 337? There's likely something different.

OK, so I started a decrypted disc backup and then played back 336 and 337. They are just end credits. I have no idea what the difference is since the running times are identical.

I am now ripping the marginally larger Angle 1 playlist which Make MKV actually preselects.

Since this is not a Lionsgate release, it is more likely that the different angles are a variation on the Disney formula of changing out title and credit segments for different languages.

If I had the space (I usually do) and time, I'd tell MakeMKV to rip all 4, see what languages each has (audio/subtitle), then look at the opening titles on each. Throw away the MKV files that do not match your requirements.

Wild guess would be 00245.mlps Angle 1 = English.

Thanks. Always good to learn about these tricks. I was planning to rip all 4 after completing the backup but when I discovered that segments 336 and 337 were both end credits, I just went with 00245.mlps.

You'd be correct. That is the one I ripped.
