Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon source file name

#1 Post by macmuchmore » Thu Aug 06, 2020 11:14 pm

I just got the CTHD UHD disk and there are 3 .mpls files that have the full movie on them (1-3.mpls). Which one is the correct one? I assume one is english, and the other two are different languages. I want the one in the original (Chinese traditional or Mandarin (I forget which it is)). Any help will be appreciated!

I can't say for sure, but there was a discussion about this movie in the Blu-ray section of this forum. I wonder if the layout on the UHD is similar?

My workflow is as follows with UHD discs and it has been super helpful to determine the correct playlist in situations like this:

- Do a full decrypted folder back-up of the disc
- Open the folder back-up in MakeMKV
- Find the two or three largest titles
- Review the "Title Information" in the right-hand panel for all of the titles
- Compare the "Segment Map" numbers and look for differences between the titles (Example: One title shows 55,60,61 and the other shows 55,59,61)
- In your OS file explorer, open the folder which contains your full disc back-up
- Navigate to the "BDMV" folder, and then to the "Stream" folder
- Open the two differing .m2ts files (59 & 60 from the example above) and review them in VLC or another video player
- This will show you exactly what is different between the two playlists.
- Then use MakeMKV to process your backed-up folder and create you MKV by selecting the title that has the language you prefer.
- Also, if the segment maps are identical, check which available languages and subtitles are on each playlist. Discs are often authored with subsets of languages isolated to one playlist.

Hope that helps.

I am having problems with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 4K UHD disc which I have recently purchased from amazon.ca

When the disc is in my Pioneer 4K Drive, I launch MakeMKV 1.17.5, and it will immediately start scanning the disc. This scanning process fails. The disc looks very clean, but I still tried cleaning it just in case. Cleaning the disc did not solve problem.

I get the following errors:

I am unable to determine if its failing during the decryption or if its a totally different error. Does anyone know what are the steps to troubleshoot/resolve this?

I searched the forums for "crouching tiger" and found this thread. It looks like others have been able to rip this disc so I am confused what my issue is.
