Issue regarding detection and playback of 4k in supported bluray player

Post by Hunter95 »

Hi, I have read an article that my Drive is UHD friendly, I've got a few movies in 4K but when I try it it doesn't detect it, I am currently using windows 8.1 as OS so, can you guide me with this issue I think even detecting it will be enough rather than the playback and I have enclosed the features of the PC below.

Details:
LG Bluray drive WH16NS40
RAM:8GB DDR3
PROCESSOR: I-5 3330@3.00GHZ
OS: Windows 8.1

Open MakeMKV and select that drive. It should spit out all the drive info in a window. Paste that here.

There are 2 versions of that hardware. One supports UHD, one DOES NOT. There are physical labels on the drive that show what version you have, but what does MakeMKV report?

Example:

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Firmware date: 2117-11-21 16:53
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959 (IMPORTANT, if 'MT1939', hardware is too old)
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

Basically, the drive is a year too old to have UHD capability, but it can (and does) use LibreDrive to enhance what it CAN do.
