Question about some messages on opening a DVD

Hey everyone,

as I noticed the following messages on many discs, I just wanted to ask, what they mean in detail.

Cells 2-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
As the title was added (see next line) I guess this is just information? Or could something be missed?

Complex multiplex encountered - 1 cells and 1803 VOBUs have to be scanned. This may take some time, please be patient - it can't be avoided.
What exactly is MakeMKV scanning within the video? If it would just use the meta data about audio tracks and languages, it surely wouldn't need to scan every VOBU inside that?
And what exactly is a complex multiplex? I see that not on every disc.

What is a cell here? It's not a chapter, as MakeMKV doesn't show me any after scanning. And 50 is only in one episode of 8 on the disc. The others mostly have 1, some 3.

Audio stream #2 is identical to stream #1 and was skipped
Subtitle stream #4 is identical to stream #3 and was skipped
How does MakeMKV check for this? Is in the VTS audio stream #1 and #2 just linked to the same audio track?

Did you ever work out what was going on? I'm having lots of messages about cells x-end being skipped due to cell command, have cleaned the disc with a damp cloth and now trying the manual disc opening as recommended here http://www.makemkv.com/manualdvd/

I got the complex multiplex message when opening the disc automatically but not when I tried manual mode.

I think the first title on mine with one cell and 0 seconds was probably the home menu.

Will update in case it helps anyone else searching for the same thing.

So here's what it was telling me with the cell commands, when I just put in the titles in manual mode:
Using direct disc access mode
Open DVD manually : "2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11"
Title #2 was added (9 cell(s), 1:23:02)
Cells 8-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
Title #3 was added (7 cell(s), 0:27:49)
Cells 9-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
Cells 2-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
Title #4 was added (1 cell(s), 0:05:55)
Cells 3-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
Cells 2-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)

And here's what I did to force all the cells, based on the info shown when it asked me to specify what to open:

Saving 10 titles into directory C:/Users/***/Videos/Red Dwarf/Extras/RDX
It'll be a little while before I find out if it was successful; it's been having problems not saving the first title anyway but the second title might show a difference.

Well, using the string (including specifying cells) I posted above got everything saved properly - the second title showed no difference but the first title actually saved this time, hooray!!

Figuring out how to open discs manually has really helped with another series that my laptop didn't play properly, so I've been able to start saving those even with discs that MakeMKV won't open properly in automatic mode.
