Can I use a SATA to USB adapter to rip discs, or is it only for flashing firmware?

I am building a new PC and it doesn't have a 5.25" drive bay. I still want to use my internal Bluray drive to rip discs, but just use it externally. I am looking at getting the Unitek Y-1099 USB to SATA cable that provides external 12v power to connect it. If I use this adapter, will Windows still see the drive the same way, and will it still work the same for ripping discs with MakeMKV?
