Hello:

@SamuriHL, Not trying to be combative, but...

1.00 vs 1.02mk... if you're on a version of a firmware that requires an mk version in order to downgrade, then 1.02mk is going to be recommended. If you're on a version of a firmware that allows straight downgrading or cross flashing, 1.00 is going to be recommended. It's really that simple.

… is really not that simple. Case in point. I just received a LG WH16NS40 - NS:50 with factory firmware of 1.04, build date of 12/2019 and when I tried to use DE -1.00 firmware, but it would not flash. Then I tried flashing to 1.02MK, yet it still would not flash. Previous models (WH16NS40 - NS:50, 12/2019, FW:1.04) purchased with the same date code, same NS code, AND same factory firmware of 1.04 flashed without incident. This time however, "BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe" kept giving an error code (also tried via sdftool, it also gave error code) and would not flash, didn't write it down but Googled it at the time, and the result lead me back to the MakeMKV forum. The forum suggested to 1st flash to "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS55-1.04-NM01701-211901041342.bin" - a 1.04MK firmware ( I'm guessing from a different family model 1.04MK vs 1.02MK AND NS55 vs NS50) completely and from there I could re-flash to my desired end flash (in my case "DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.00.bin"). No where did the post ever suggest to initially flash using 1.02MK FWIR.

Lesson I learned... Thank goodness for the gurus of the Libre board section! Read what the gurus have posted and follow what they have to say! Totally saved my butt!!! AND, sometimes 1.02MK is NOT the way to get to DE - 1.00 firmware.

Simple... no, not really IMHO!

Regards,
A

That was the weird part. Same was true for me, until this last drive. Not going to lie, it was a "pucker" moment as I thought LG changed something within the factory 1.04 firmware (for the WH16NS40 - NS:50) to make it more difficult to re-flash. I had to jump through some hoops to be able to cross flash it (as explained above) to a WH16NS60 - 1.00, but I eventually got it thanks to the help of this forum.

If I could not get it, I was definitely going to contact you and utilize your services (always nice to know there is a safety net)!

A

I had a feeling but it's better to ask. Thanks for confirming. Time to hunt down a new drive that can support UHD discs perhaps?

I should have quoted what I was replying to and that was the gentleman's question about flashing a drive with the 1939 chip on it.

Just joined, be kind, until 2 days ago I didn't know what a Libredrive was. Anyway, I think I have the same set up as the first person posting and would like to make mine a Libredrive too. Is mine also compatible, looks like only the firmware is different.

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH14NS40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: M65J21B3303
Firmware date: 2117-11-21 16:58
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 72

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

I found and downloaded the MK firmware zip file but I am not able to find any instructions on how to flash. Would someone be willing to help point me in the right direction?

Also, reading the posts left me unsure what firmware to flash, the 1.04MK or 1.0? Then finally I see where someone said to back up your old firmware and reading through that I got lost. How important is this step? If important, is there any instructions for tech challenged?

Nothing more to do, really. Your drive is too old to do UHD, but you have the other benefits of LibreDrive.
