What is the "old player" and "new player"? All of my stuff was freshly installed a couple days ago and refresh rate switching in Plex was working fine.shawnc22 wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 6:23 pmIt works in Plex, you just have to revert back to the old player, or use the new player + refresh rate app. Both players use exoplayer as the backend as far as I know so you're not losing much going between the two.DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 6:10 pmhttps://forums.plex.tv/t/dolby-vision-r ... /488390/13
This might give an insight into why refresh rate switching doesn’t work for DV on the shield.

It's in the Plex client settings. I believe it's called "Use New Player" and as far as I can tell, it's just an interface change. But I've noticed that if the new player is turned on, Plex's own refresh rate matching wasn't working.olevelo wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 9:16 pmWhat is the "old player" and "new player"? Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
The nice thing is that a Plex Employee noticed the spec change and wrote on the Plex request.
So i've got a feeling that they want to implement it as soon as it is finalized in the specification
UPDATE:
Good news, Plex has written to me directly that they are looking to adding the support for this as soon as the standard has been locked.
However they will NOT be able to use the Exoplayer implementation as they don't utilize Exoplayer as a demuxer, but "only" as a MediaCodec Engine.
They are in the process of adding something similar in FFMpeg with one of their employees participating directly in the dialogue regarding the standard!
So i think it's safe to say that we will have this feature in very very soon in Plex, as soon as the standard is in place!
(For those interested it is rcombs on the github issue for the mkv spec:

His Plex profile is here:

Plex will definitely include it. Alone how many have already voted. If in the end you only have to copy it or have little work, this should be easy for Plex. I am also positive. Thank you for the update.steffenmanden wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 6:50 amThe nice thing is that a Plex Employee noticed the spec change and wrote on the Plex request.

Emby also confirmed that as soon as ExoPlayer updates they will too, so if you don't get soon for Plex you will have another option by using Emby.
The current problem with Plex in NVidia Shield is they have serious problem with memory leaks, did you try to play a high bitrate MKV, like the latest Akira UHD or just the Jelly Fish demo samples, Kodi on Shield TV can reproduce it without problem but Plex shutters horribly and ends freezing.

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
Sorry for the OT but anyone who's in the know on things have any idea if the Plex memory leak issues on the shield also affect the Fire stick in a similar way? I have one connected to an Ethernet adapter and it will direct play 4K rips (with FLAC to PCM audio) just fine, except every 5 to 20 minutes it freezes so that I have to hit the back button and then play again and resume.
Edit - wonder if I need to check the adapter "speed".....

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
the ethernet adapter is garbage. it's not gigabit, and actually only gets around 70-80mbps max. I thought my 300/300 internet was acting up til I realized it was the adapter. when I switch to 5g wifi ac I get my full 300mbps down and about 60mbps up, due to the firestick's hwRedhawk2000 wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 10:26 pmSorry for the OT but anyone who's in the know on things have any idea if the Plex memory leak issues on the shield also affect the Fire stick in a similar way? I'm not using the official Amazon one. I'm using what turns out to be a 10/100 connectio. I'm not sure why I assumed it was gigabit as I bought it five years ago so I shouldn't be surprised. But that must be it, as you were saying. I may buy a 10/100/1000 for $13.Grencola wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 12:46 amthe ethernet adapter is garbage. it's not gigabit, and actually only gets around 70-80mbps max. Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
oh, was thinking you had the official one. yeah if you hookup a micro usb otg cable (like https://amazon.com/dp/B07TX8FY6W/ ) to any asix ax88179 chipset gigabit adapter it will work fine. amazon's own usb 3.0 to gigabit adapter for example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M77HMU0/Redhawk2000 wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 12:59 amI'm not using the official Amazon one. Thanks again. Was thinking of this one. It's 5 bucks cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00YUU3K ... spend the 5 bux, man I can't find if the tp-link uses the asix ax88179 chipset so you could run into issuesRedhawk2000 wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 12:13 amThanks again. Was thinking of this one. It's 5 bucks cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00YUU3K ... B00M77HMU0
Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
Hi everyone,
I've spent a considerable amount of time going through this and other posts in this forum but am still running into some issues, so hoping someone can help me out.
I have a copy of a film that has the BDMV, CERTIFICATE and MAKEMKV folder.
The playlist with the Dolby Vision file is hidden, but I was able to locate it.
I have tried the following:
1. Using MakeMKV to create a .mkv file from the .index file within the BDMV folder
2. Using MakeMKV to create a .mkv file from the .mlps 'hidden' playlist file
3. Creating a .ts from both of the above, in addition to creating a .ts purely from the mlps.
In all of these instances, I am left with a HDR10 only file with no indication of Dolby Vision within Mediainfo.
I followed someone's suggestion on here and downloaded a more specific version of TSmux (4.06), and used that on the originally created .mkv file. This did show Dolby Vision in Mediainfo:
However, this:
1) Only played in HDR10 via ATV 4K Plex
2) Would not open the file when connecting to the LG directly via USB
3) Would not open the file when trying to play via LG Plex app
I then used the specific version of TSmux to create a .ts of the specific playlist .mpls file, with the following results in Mediainfo:
However, this .ts file is also not recognized via USB and it only plays in HDR10 on my OLED via the Plex app.
I've spent a lot of time on this so any help would be very appreciated

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
Not sure if this is new, but i just noticed that the latest MX Player Beta plays PGS subtitles from .ts 04.06 files on the Shield 2019 now
Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
I don't think the LG Plex app can play DV ts files. Only mp4. In fact I haven't seen any Plex app other than on the Shield reported to play the ts files (I could very well have missed it though).chrisandy wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 4:29 pmHi everyone,

I have an LG C8, and a Shield with the Plex Server and a few DV ts files that I have played fine through the Shield's Plex app (with DV). I just tried watching through the LG Plex app and every one that I tried only triggered HDR10. These are all 04.06. So interesting that those wouldn't even play on your LG. I had previously tried profile 8 (I think...whatever version of tsmuxer I was using) and with those I would get audio but no video, as I recall.
Bottom line, currently for mkv/ts you need a Shield.
