Problem with some UHD disks on a HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N drive
I am not sure if this should go under UHD disks or UHD drives so please forgive me if I post in the wrong area but this seems to involve multiple disks.
Most 4K UHD disks have no problems with the drive, however, 1917, Midway, I think the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and now Cold Pursuit just do not read. In other words, there is nothing that shows up under that disk. Since the disk is not reading, it is not creating the file to send so I do not think this is a certificate issue so I do not think that is the problem and more into the firmware or the drive, itself, possibly a newer form of copyright protection.
It is not all new disk. Zombieland 2 and Rise of Skywalker are examples of newer disks that I had no problems reading.
Here are the specs of my drive I am using to read UHD disks and I obtained the firmware from here and flashed it, myself, and I am above average computer literate.
BTW, that Unrestricted read speed entry would be a nice to have.
Here is the drive issue with Cold Pursuit in it. It attempted the load process and the disk is still physically in the drive. I cannot find any other log information to give:

Did you try cleaning the disc?
Did you try the disc in another drive?

Did this drive ever read discs? How is it hooked up?

Disk is clean and I do not have another 4K UHD Drive. Tried all of that. I think it is something in the firmware. It is hooked up to a USB 3 Hub, then to a Surface Pro docking station. Connecting direct yields no different results.
Add Pets 2 to the list. Toy Story 4 read with no problem right after it.
It churns, bumps, churns, bumps...no high speed spinning of the disk, almost as if it cannot track to find the index of the disk.

I can assure you it's nothing in the firmware it works for everyone else. It could be the drive not getting enough power or a bad drive.khilzinger wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 11:27 pmDisk is clean and I do not have another 4K UHD Drive. Tried all of that. I also get this on some Blu Ray, non-HDR disks, too, BTW.

But it works with some disks and its USB cable has two USB A type connections, one for additional power, which I have in a 2-AMP power USB connection on my hub (hence the hub) and the data side is in a normal USB connection.
I can take it failing on one disk and try a different disk with no problems. And it seems to be the same disks over and over that fail. In other words, its failures follow the disk. Some titles work. Some do not and I can take a bad one, remove it, insert a good one and it works fine, then put the bad one back in, and it fails the same way.

Other disks play fine, without issues. Going between non-working to working back to non-working is repeatable between the same disks over and over, months apart. If it does not work, it just won't work, no matter what I try. It is only certain disks and from what I see, it seems to be titles that have a lot of copyright protection on their normal Blu Ray counterparts.
I really do not think it is dirt on the lasers. I used to professionally clean CD players in the 1990s right after high school for a major electronics retailer, among other repairs and maintenance tasks. I am very good with hardware. Obviously, cleaning, is always a good idea so do you have any recommended cleaners? I do make sure discs are clean before they go in rubbing smudges with microfiber cloths designed for cleaning media, one of which came with one of my Blu Ray readers.
I do value these suggestions and I do thank you for taking the time to answer back. It is just that I tried the simple things, which is why I am leaning more towards a firmware issue.

OP - how did you get on with this? I'm experiencing similar problems with an Asus drive.
