Would you mind explaining why you initially recommended 1.02 DE instead of 1.03 MK?
I'm sure you have a good reason and I certainly would be interested in knowing. :)
1.02de is more compatible with more rippers works with everything that supports UHD ripping.

1.03mk should but some ripper programs just blacklist by firmware number and say no not by actual compatibility

Any example of those ripper programs that blacklist by firmware number?

Could we have went directly from 1.04 Official to 1.03 MK or an intermediate firmware would have been needed?

Thanks!!

intermediate is needed for 1.04+
dvdfab blacklists possibly others to sell you the UHD drive tool for $109

So we would have done the following?

WH16NS40 1.04-Stock --> WH16NS60 1.02-MK

then

WH16NS60 1.02-MK --> WH16NS40 1.03-MK

Is that it?

That seems odd but you're the man. :)
I mean, why an 1.04 Official would take a 1.02 MK from an other model but not 1.03 MK of the same model...

that would work alot of ways to go about it.
if you on anything but 1.04 official you can go directly to whatever firmware you want no side grades necessary

Ok, when you have a few minutes I'd like to know why the WH16NS60 1.02-MK can be used as an "intermediate" firmware before we can apply WH16NS40 1.03-MK.
It must have something special...? :)

Thanks!

its only needed to get around the additional downgrade checks on 1.04+ flashing it for anything other then that is unnecessary

Yes but what does WH16NS60 1.02-MK have WH16NS40 1.03-MK doesn't that makes it usable as an intermediate? Both are two MK firmwares.

it has the a work around for the additional downgrade checks that 1.03mk does not. i have not looked at it out of respect as Mike but i have had dreams of making a 1 and done firmware de and mk additional downgrade work around in one.
but that is not necessary now because the new makemkv flasher i have for my setup is all scripted

You instructed to go from WH16NS40 1.04-Stock --> WH16NS60 1.02-MK
then --> WH16NS40 1.03-MK.

The Wh16ns60 is an upgrade to the WH16NS40 and does 8X instead of 6x read. If I stopped there instead of following up with the wh16ns60 1.03-MK...
1. Would I have 8X speed reading?
2. Would my drive be Libre enabled?

Yes, and no sleep bug. It's recommended to stay on the ns60 firmware.

So going from WH16NS40 1.04-Stock --> WH16NS60 1.02-MK, I should be okay to burn bluray and DVD disk, will be able to read UHD, and won't have to worry about sleep bug, and will get 8X reading capability, and will have libre drive enabled, when using makemkv to rip blurays and dvd's, correct?

If it doesn't work and I have to go to WH16NS40 1.03-MK, I go back down to 6x speed, still are able to rip blurays, and have libre drive enabled using makemkv, correct?
