Planet Earth 2 / Blue Planet 2

Post by longdongsilver » Thu May 07, 2020 3:25 pm

Hi team,

I have a LG WH16NS60 4K UHD drive that was purchased recently brand-new and flashed to 1.02MK firmware with Libredrive activated.

I have ripped less than a dozen discs with it. I purchased the 4K UHD box set of Planet Earth 2 / Blue Planet 2 brand-new and sealed from Amazon. Interestingly, a single disc from each series will not rip with MakeMKV. All the others ripped fine.

Here are screenshots of the issues I've seen:

Any idea what could be going on here?

I exchanged my new sealed copy for another new sealed copy from Amazon. The second copy allowed me to copy both discs. I'm wondering if there was some kind of defect on the first box set discs.

As pointed out in If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!, "new fresh from the sealed package no visible scratches" means very little with optical disks.

I recently got a set of disks, three days before the official release, sealed, ... and with greasy fingerprints on two of them, and scratches on the third. The packaging is often contaminated, so the longer they sit on the shelf, the more likely the disks will need to be cleaned.

It leads drives to try VERY HARD to get a readable sector, often to the point of the operating system insisting that the drive is off-line.
