Feature Request: Close Tray Button

Post by WoofGrrrr »

Could we have a "Close Tray" button, the opposite of the "Eject Disk" button.

I find having to manually push in the tray a bit problematic. The tension on the tray is so great that the whole PC moves.

Doesn't the eject button on the drive also retract it?

A software load button has been asked for in the past.

I click on the Eject Button when the tray is out and nothing happens

I was referring to the button on the front of the drive, sorry.

There is indeed a place on the front cover that I can press to eject/load the disk. But it's not so easy to use.

Black case under the desk in the dark. And the manufacturer tried to be clever and stylish, so it's made to blend in. It's hard to even feel it. And, finally, with the tray open, it's difficult to even get at.

I thought this would make the app simpler for me, and perhaps others, to use. I admit I've never written an app that programmatically retracts a drive tray -- I was doing web and server back-end stuff -- so I don't know if I'm asking for something that's expensive to do for just a little convenience.

Is it necessary that the feature be added to MakeMKV? A quick google of 'tool eject close drive tray' yields a number of options that could "eject and close the CD Drive door by using a hotkey, desktop shortcut, or via an icon in your system tray". Predominantly Windows, but if you refined the search?

No, it is not absolutely necessary to put a button in the app. But why not? I am doing my work in that app. And having the button in that app would enhance my workflow.

MakeMKV *already* has a button to open and eject. Why is it so much to ask for a new button (or the same button) to close the tray? I would just rather have one simple click in the app I'm already using. iTunes does it.

If the developers just don't want to do it, that's fine.

Just askin'. Seemed to me with your system layout, a more inclusive/flexible solution was called for. Good luck.

Well, some of us put the towers on the floor so that they can better collect the dust in the room, so buttons are a bit hard to reach with the cup holder extended...
