Meh, not if they keep it in the family. :) NS55 firmware, as an example.
that's why i said and or have slower speeds with lg non NS60 firmware or the possibility of not burning discs with asus firmware both have sleep bug.

I have a 11year old Lite-On iHOS104-08 Blu-ray drive. Is there a firmware that would make it a LibreDrive?

Probably not, but not impossible. MakeMKV will recognize it and display a "LibreDrive status" if it is possible.

Getting it to read UHD disks, however, is not possible. The hardware doesn't support it.

I just purchased a LG WH16NS60 drive and when I open makemkv it doesnt't detect the drive. I came across this post and decided to give it a try. When I open the firmware flash utility and select the firmware I want it goes to 100% then says update failed. I've tried it many times with no luck. Can someone provide some assistance?

You have an amd system correct? This causes the false flash fail it is flashed it just says it failed.

Now for the not showing up in makemkv that is not caused by firmware it should show up without flashing I believe this problem is related to ransomware protection in windows defender disable it or make an exception for makemkv

I do have an amd system. When I open makemkv it gives the following message....

"The program can't find any usable optical drives"

I finally got it to see the drive but I am now experiencing another problem. I get this message after reading the disc...

"The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc"

The movie is a 4k UHD disc

I just purchased a new drive, went ahead and flashed it and now it keeps dropping the drive. I will start to rip and then will error out and drop the drive requiring a restart. I have also turned off the windows defender as previously stated with no luck.

MakeMKV v1.15.0 win(x64-release) started
Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.02' at offset '33364506624'
Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.02' at offset '655360'
udf: UDF mount: disc not properly formatted or damaged disc (rootdirs failing)
Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.02' at offset '32768'
Failed to open disc

here are the errors I am receiving along with a picture of the drive information.

edit: this is an AMD system if that makes a difference

If I bought this drive and it came with firmware 1.3, I take it I'm out of luck?

So, it would appear I need to get my eyes checked. It's ROM Ver. 1.02

Sorry for the dumb post

Is this guide still relevant in 2020? I just got this drive and I'm going to be flashing it soon. I have 1.02 firmware on this new drive.

I'm not entirely sure, I followed the guide to flashing the drive and am still not able to rip UHD discs. Blu Rays work fine, though.
