Of course! I had to ask the same question last week. Just want to help pass on the information.

Given that you still don't have a 4K TV yet, you might as well wait and not go down the TS file conversion road. That can always be done later, if need be. Hopefully by the time you're 4K-equipped, there will be a player which supports this newer variant of MKV.

So, before I do it, I can now "rip" DV mkvs from my previous full folder backups and then delete the folder backups if my future hope is to only have DV/atmos?

Got them to accept implementing the reading of Dolby Vision data from MKV as a feature for Exoplayer!

https://github.com/google/ExoPlayer/issues/7267

However it got a low priority!

If they implement it, it will get way easier for Plex to potentially merge it into their custom version of Exoplayer!

Personally, I'd hang onto the full backups, at least a little while longer. While I seriously doubt things will change significantly, there's always a chance that future solutions will, for whatever reasons, not work with these MKVs. I'm hanging onto my backups for awhile. Once we have a reasonable solution that works on most hardware, I'll feel safer in deleting my backups. :)

Very nice. That would indeed be awesome.

Can anyone help me with eac3to and tsMuxer please? The guides here seem to assume a base level of knowledge that's beyond me.

I've started by ripping Apocalypse Now and putting it into the eac3to GUI like so:
Image
and clicking "run" next to "demux".

This leads to an output that looks like this:
Image.
The second blank file is the TrueHD audio file.

I can add the original MKV to tsMuxer, however the audio file isn't supported by tsMuxer and I get this error message:
Image.
Note that the original output extension was simply .thd, I added the +ac3 when trying to figure this out myself but the error is the same either way. This happens across the newest stable and nightly builds of tsMuxer, as well as the version linked a few pages back. Can someone let me know what I've done wrong? I assume it's something at the eac3to stage - I couldn't get my head around using CMD to do this.

So I have a question, apologies if it sounds dumb. My TV only supports profile 5 DV inherently, I think, so if I make a profile 7 rip and play it using something like a sony x700, will it handle proper dual layer files?
Anyone?

Thank you so much! In my defence I was adding the thd+ac3 command (I forgot to when getting the screenshot), but I was clicking the wrong button to execute the task.

Yes. it supports both dv mp4 and ts files.
So will it trigger DV both on the player and the TV? Or will the TV's profile 5 support become a bottleneck? BTW I've been using your program, and I can't begin to express my gratitude.

So the codec on the video part says MpegH HEVC Main10@L5.1 (dvhe.07.06 BL+EL+RPU FEL) when opening the bluray. But after making the mkv and opened the resulting mkv in makemkv the video codec is now just MpegH HEVC Main10@L5.1 . Is that normal? Or did it not do it correctly? The movie I tried is Knives Out

STOP MUXING with tsMuxer 2.6.12 or 2020-04-19 Nightly !

With the versions you create a dvhe.06.06 which is absolute bullshit.
Profile 6 does not exist and does not work anywhere!
https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologie ... levels.pdf

In this case, you need Profile 4 (or 8 -I have to see if that makes a difference with a single layer DV)

You need the the dvhe.04.06 Fix !!! ... tsMuxer (04.06 fix)).rar
https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... c82#p86634 or https://github.com/justdan96/tsMuxer/pull/250

However, I am also surprised because otherwise there are single layer DV in profile 5. I once read that Profile 4 is no longer recommended by Dolby.

Anyway, get the fix for dvhe.04.06.. Then it will work at Shield 2019 and Plex in my Case.

dvhe.04.06 = 23.976 fps Content und TrueHD works!
dvhe.04.09 = 59.940 fps Content und TrueHD works!

Please note, however, that PGS subtitles are not supported. So you have to save them externally as SRT. Chapters are not possible in the file of .ts or .m2ts.
