The rental file and what MakeMKV chooses are different.

They line up until about 3/4 of the way, then differ. Have not watched it, yet.

Anyone having a problem making a backup of Knives Out? I'm getting a read error, but it's a brand new rental disc. If no one else seeing an error maybe I just got a bad disc. I also got this error trying to save the .mkv

Saving 1 titles into directory E:/Video/Knives Out
Error 'OS error - A device which does not exist was specified' occurred while writing data to 'E:/Video/Knives Out/Knives Out_t93.mkv' at offset '22380806144'
Failed to save title 93 to file E:/Video/Knives Out/Knives Out_t93.mkv
0 titles saved, 1 failed

So has someone confirmed the right source file for the redbox version?

makemkv gives me this one as the "main feature"

Title information
Name: Knives Out
Comment: FPL_MainFeature
Source file name: 00225.mpls
Duration: 2:10:27
Chapters count: 17
Size: 28.4 GB
Segment count: 16
Segment map: 506,511,519,505,513,510,502,514,507,503,504,512,520,518,508,515
File name: Knives Out-FPL_MainFeature_t00.mkv

but kennova said his was this one.

Title information

File name: Knives Out_t111.mkv

The thing is, when I play the movie in a bluray player, the main menu lists 16 scenes and the movie has 17 chapters (I'm guessing the extra chapter is the credits which is not listed as one of the scenes) So, it looks like the file that makemkv lists as the main feature is more correct because it has 17 chapters. Is that right?

Here is the error when I try to do a backup

MakeMKV v1.14.7 win(x64-release) started
Backing up disc into folder "E:/Video/backup/KNIVES_OUT"
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Error 'OS error - An operation was attempted to a volume after it was dismounted' occurred while writing data to 'E:/Video/backup/KNIVES_OUT/BDMV/STREAM/02807.m2ts' at offset '469762048'
Backup failed

I quickly checked this morning and want to say that the source 00234.mpls is correct.
I checked side-by-side the two files you mentioned and the difference is in the scene that (I’ll try to keep spoiler-free, just in case) contains a phone call in a restaurant.
The file that MakeMKV shows will cut before the camera pans to show behind the caller.

If I recall correctly, this takes place around the 1:19:37 (+/- a couple minutes) mark. Towards the end of Chapter 10, I think.

There might have been a couple other moments later on, as I think that the time stamp at the beginning of the credits was off by more than a few seconds.

It has been a few hours since I checked, so the time/chapter might be slightly off.
I will edit this post when I am back at my computer and can confirm.

Hope this helps someone!

MKV can't seem to decrypt the Amazon (US) version?

MakeMKV v1.14.7 win(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
Using LibreDrive mode (v05 id=96929CF53B04)
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\Admin/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v72_Knives_Out_BF60.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc

Thank you jaq805 and Dustin66 for posting the retail version along with the SEGMENT MAP! This is a novel concept I struggle to find on these forums since source file names can differ from disk to disk but segment maps are forever. :-)

You have a UHD disc, because the dump starts with MKB20
Good Luck :)
