Just wanted to say that I really appreciate this guide. It worked perfectly for me on the WH16NS60 I picked up earlier this week. Prior to using this to flash the firmware, I was ripping standard Blu Ray discs using MakeMKV just fine, but couldn't get to doing so on the UHD discs. I found the other guide you mentioned in your initial post, which has a ton of great info, but it was hard for me to decipher which actual firmware I needed to use. You made this super simple and I'm now happily ripping UHD discs so I can stream locally from my Plex Server :). Thank you!

What makes the WH16NS60 the best choice? I was rolling along on the assumption stated in the drive list that all the drives were made by LG and about the same, hence picking the cheapest which is on Amazon now, the WH14NS40 for about $57 shipped.

Thank you for this guide! I just updated my 1.01 FW drive to the patched 1.02 from this guide and it worked like a charm!

I bought this exact drive, followed all of the required steps, and I even have my LibreDrive status at "Enabled," but I'm still having no luck decypting my UHD discs.

If anyone can help, it would be most appreciated. Additionally, if you'd like to add me on Discord for direct help, it's Ariyan-nee#6069

Thank you.

Well, you have to provide us with more information other than just "it does not work". We are not mind readers nor are we sitting next to you to be able to see what is happening. This is an online forum. You gotta help us help you.

In the drive status window where it shows "LibreDrive is enabled" etc, what is the drive info MakeMKV is displaying for the drive?

What errors is MakeMKV reporting if any when you try to decrypt any of your UHD disks?

Any MakeMKV error logs available?

Any other information and/or more detailed description of the problem that applies to your issue/problem that you can post will be helpful for someone to better advise further.

I'm sorry about yesterday. It's just when you're frustrated that something you paid money for doesn't work, you don't exactly feel like laying everything out, but you're right.

There are parts of the disk that the drive cannot read ('Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR'). It then tries VERY VERY HARD to read it, which the operating system interprets as the drive being off-line ('Scsi error - HARDWARE ERROR:TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT').

Step one would be cleaning the disk. If that doesn't fix it, replacement of the disk is the next step.

If I go from 1.0 to this patched 1.02, will read speeds be improved? I find the drives slow compared to the Asus 16's...

And is this "patch" compatible with AnyDVD and DVDFab functionality? I presume yes, but...

Thanks

No speeds are the same but comparable to asus

No it will break comparability with DVDfab and it never worked with anydvd

Oh, ok thanks -

Is there's a "generic" patch that works for all software?

And should I even care about getting off of 1.0?

Thanks

Not exactly I would recommend you stay on 1.00. you can make it work with anydvd with other firmware but you would then get the sleep bug and either have slower rip speeds or the possibility of not being able to burn discs

Interesting - so if people need to / want to use various software (since not everything does EVERYTHING) you maintain different patches HW drives for different software?

Meh, not if they keep it in the family. :) NS55 firmware, as an example.

I personally have 2 drives. One ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10MK and WH16NS60 1.00. The ASUS works with AnyDVD and MakeMKV (but not DVDFab...it bitches about it because I don't think the firmware is whitelisted...whatever). The NS60 works with DVDFab and MakeMKV. I really only care about MakeMKV for the most part these days as title support is super fast. But yea, I have 2 drives for various reasons. And 1 ASUS/1 LG for very specific reasons in terms of reading certain troublesome discs.
