Hello,
I've been using Make MKV for several years now. I recently purchased started having problems with multiple Blu-ray's. I had been ripping Blu-rays all weekend with no issues.
Now, when attempting to rip Gold Finger and Thunderball, my drive disconnects partway through. It never seems to disconnect in the same place. I am running a PC with Windows 10 (fully updated). I am also running an LG BE14NU40 external drive with it's own power source connected through USB 3.0. I'm also running Make MKV 1.14.3.
I went ahead and updated Make MKV to 1.14.7 to see if this remedied the problem. Now the problem is slightly different. I pasted below my error codes. I've gotten similar Error 'OS error on about 6 completely different disks now.
And to be clear, I'm not pointing fingers at Make MKV, I just don't know what the problem might be. I've had this drive for several years, and it worked fine to use with other Blu-rays before and after this issue. It also works fine for DVD's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Drive Disconnect/ Error 'OS error
Re: Drive Disconnect/ Error 'OS error
Do you have your critical files backed up?
I ask because, when I search for these errors on Google, I get Microsoft tech answers on how to mark bad sectors using chkdsk.exe.

Re: Drive Disconnect/ Error 'OS error
I guess I don't know the answer to that question. How would I know if I have critical files backed up? I would assume no, not anything that's on my computer. I back up all kinds of things, but only from my NAS.
Re: Drive Disconnect/ Error 'OS error
"Backed up" means copied somewhere that you can recover them if the drive stops working. And there is a good chance that you have already had parts of the drive become unreadable, going by the error messages.
The real question is what drive is Windows complaining about. If it is complaining about the optical drive, that's really not a big issue - you can replace those easily enough. But, if it is giving that error because your "regular" drive is disconnecting, that can make your machine unbootable and the contents of your drive unavailable.

Re: Drive Disconnect/ Error 'OS error
That makes sense. I've had zero issues with the machine itself (other than the fact that it's an older machine). I knew what backed up means, i just didn't know what I needed to be backing up as most everything on this machine that's important (besides the OS itself) is backed up to my NAS and a B2 Backblaze account.
I would assume that the drive must be the issue, but is there anyway to verify this? Just about every time I try to rip a disk now, I have to rip it 3 or 4 time to successfully rip it (as the drive just randomly disconnects right in the middle and then immediately reconnects). I've been trying to determine if the USB port is failing (the drive is powered from a separate wall source) or if the Drive itself is failing.
Again, I appreciate all the help!

Re: Drive Disconnect/ Error 'OS error
Do you have a network share you can connect the machine to, and rip to that as a destination, instead of the local drive? If so, give it a try; if the errors disappear, the optical disk is probably OK. If they continue, then it is something about the optical drive giving issues. If you can borrow a USB BD drive, you can see if that changes the equation.

Re: Drive Disconnect/ Error 'OS error
I will give that a shot next. I'm crossing my fingers I may have just found the culprit though. I just took Window's abilities to save power away through each of the Root USB Hubs in the device manager. That seems to have fixed it over the last few disks. I'm going to rip directly to my NAS as well. Lastly, i just started the process of ordering a new disk drive from Alex on MakeMKV's Forums, who has the firmware backdated to support LibreDrive. I'll update once I know for sure if any of this works. Thanks!
