"The program can't find any usable optical drives" Logs included

#1 Post by marknate24 » Sat Jan 11, 2020 7:21 pm

Hi, I have used this product successfully in the past on a different win10 pc with the same bluray drive used here. This is the first time using this software on this win10 pc. I have installed the WinCdArb option, ran as an administrator, excluded the processes and install folder in windows defender. What else can I do? I only have one bluray drive and do not have the means to change it at the moment. Windows sees the files on two disks without any problem.

The bluray drive is a laptop pull, UJ141 by Panasonic, hooked up with a usb 3 to slimline sata adapter.

Windows included an update that installs a "anti-ransomware" option, default ON, that blocks programs that aren't properly authorized from accessing certain resources. Like optical drives.

You have to add an exception for MakeMKV before it will allow it to see the optical drives, even if you're running as admin.

I don't have the details handy, but Google has a lot on it.

Here is the same error on my laptop running pop_os 19.10.
Again the disk is recognized in the file manager and can be browsed/copied.

This is what occurs when I copy the contents of the disk onto the machine and feed it index.bdmv.

Code: Select all

And this is when feeding makemkv MovieObject.bdmv, same error.

Interesting note:
While copying another disk over to test with and opening makemkv, the drive spins down, a debug message appears, then the disk spins back up and resumes copying. This happens twice every time makemkv is opened.

Once I fixed the one pc I have that can use my bluray drive via sata opposed of usb everything worked like normal in linux. Some users on forum.level1techs.com mentioned that the drive was showing up as a usb drive. I confirmed that in both windows and linux. A friend of mine uses a usb only bluray drive (asus usb3 external drive) without any issues. In my case, I had to use the laptop drive within a computer that could interface with it over its slim sata connector.
