Deepwater Horizon 4k UHD not ripping

#1 Post by keber007 » Thu Dec 19, 2019 7:03 pm

Has anyone had issues getting the UHD disc for deepwater horizon to RIP? I have tried 2 different physical copies of the disc, I have tried both my LG WH16NS60 (firmware 1.01) & Asus BW-16D1HT (firmware 3.10), both Libre Drive enabled, and either/both have been able to RIP 105 other movies so far in 4K without much effort (the ASUS has been more finicky, hence the LG drive was a later purchase). Just tried the 2nd copy, and get the following errors with my Asus drive, and then it shows "no disc inserted"

Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as C:\Users\keber/MakeMKV_log.txt
DEBUG: Code 100941314 at ]8PztK'0td`)P05'q8:213131778

I tried this again in my LG drive (again), and it shows up in Windows Explorer, but MakeMKV just keeps spitting out the error code: DEBUG: Code 3221225664 at .b)!8erJ/6[gx3>l:121266649 repeated indefinitely... I should also note, after this error the drive no longer shows up in windows until I reboot.

I didn't have any problem ripping that disc multiple times. Almost seems like you managed to get two bad copies of the same disc but the odds of that I think are pretty high. I'm sure you've tried cleaning the disc and all that.

I did a few different ways, just with a dry microfiber, then with a light alcohol swab (probably a bad idea, but I had exhausted other options), after each cleaning i hit with compressed air to remove any residual dust... made no difference. I did notice that there are some small scratches near the center hub (where the barcode is visible around the center), I can't really get a pic of it, but I don't know if that would cause this issue... I did focus on those areas to see if they improved, but no dice... Both copies were from Amazon, so it could have been a bad batch?...

I have the same drive but as soon as I updated to Firmware 3.03, the drive was not able to load my so far only 4k disc (Ready Player One) anymore.

Asus told me, that the drive would not be and never has been able to read 4k at all. After I downgraded to 3.02, I was able to read them again. I think I've read something about a bug in the firmware letting it open 4k after all.

I'm not sure how the 3.10 is working. If I don't have a reason, I probably won't ever update my firmware again.

Hmm, wrong topic perhaps :-)

I’d not waste your time asking ASUS about 4K support that’s an unsatisfying conversation. As far as firmware versions stick with what works!

Yes, somewhat unrelated post to what is being discussed here as Jonghotti said.

The reason you experienced that has been discussed in extreme detail over the last two+ years in this forum and dozens of other places on the interwebs. Updating to official firmware and contacting ASUS support for such a thing is YOUR first mistake. They will obviously say that. They have to.

The proper modified 3.10 firmware should work, unless there is a problem with the disc itself. E.g damaged, defective, etc.
