Problem solved: I updated to 1.14.7, changed from 3.10 MK firmware to DE 3.02 firmware and cleaned the disk with an alcohol wipe and magically I was able to make a backup of the disk.

I just got this disk brand new yesterday, opened the box and put it straight into my drive to read it.

I am getting the following problem and not sure why as I have been able to use the drive for normal blu rays absolutely fine, this is the first UHD disk I have tried however.

when it gets to the decryption part it takes it a while to parse the following file, not sure if that has any effect?

Start by updating to 1.4.7 (current version). That probably won't help, because the error looks to be a section of the disk that the drive cannot read, and it tries VERY HARD to do so... So hard that the operating system thinks it has gone off-line.

I'll try again and see how far I get, I've also flashed my drive with 3.02 with libre instead of MK 3.10, will report back.

Is the ASUS drive I have useless for UHD disks? or is it just this disk? the drive performs absolutely fine on non-UHD blu rays.

Looks like a bad disc. Microfiber clean it and if that doesn't work, you'll need to replace the disc.

Thank you, I don't even understand how but cleaning the brand new disk with a glasses wipe magically made it work even thought there were no humanly visible marks on the disk.

Yeah these discs sometimes ship with an invisible film of oil on them. Highly annoying but a good cleaning usually does the trick.
