Ability to downgrade the newest WH16NS40's

#1 Post by DDE12 » Sat Nov 16, 2019 7:27 pm

I am looking at purchasing a WH16NS40 but wanted to confirm some things before doing so. I've read a lot on various forums about making these drives capable of ripping UHD Blu-rays with some conflicting information. If I purchase a WH16NS40 now (in November 2019), assuming it has the latest firmware..., will I definitely be able to make it capable of ripping UHD Blu-rays with MakeMKV? Or is it unknown until I unbox (making it too late to return)? Thank you in advance.

You will most likely be able to make the drive friendly. However, I would certainly buy a WH14NS40 because it's cheaper and you can flash it to a WH16NS40, or ASUS BH16D1HT, or WH16NS60, or whatever you want.
