AACS2 O/C v65

Post by DVD Maniac »

Just re-flashed Older ASUS 16X to 3.10. No good. Seems like a firmware upgrade with an older drive cannot cope with AACS2. So another brick then unless I use it for older encryptions. Ah well, maybe build an outdoor shed from them, I reckon I have enough now.

Those look like read errors. What does that have to do with aacs?

Because the exact same disk in its current state read and played perfectly well with a newer drive on 3.10 MK which I made clear on mu post?

Just to be clear and referring to my post on ASUS 16X. Upgrading older drives manufactured after April 2019 will not work consistently with new encryption regardless of whatever FW you use. I Have run extensive tests supporting this. LG / ASUS are clearly upgrading their Laser HW to meet new encryption standards,

No I don't think so probably just bad drives if you know the disks are good ,I had a massive batch of defective NS60 with build dates from 12-15-18 to 4-03-19 more then half of all of them were bad

Sorry, but, I don't buy that premise in the slightest. It has nothing to do with encryption. I believe their shoddy drives are defective and their lasers have problems reading discs...which is what I see in your log there. But I absolutely do not accept the theory that the laser has anything at all to do with encryption.

OK I bow to greater knowledge. Either my drive always had a defective laser and its only just showing up with newer titles or its getting worn out. :( Never mind just adds to my collection of bricks.

The quality of these drives leaves a *LOT* to be desired. I got lucky with my NS60 and 16D1HT drives. But as time has gone on, quality has gone way down on the newer releases of them. So it's not surprising to some of us that have been around a while that you've managed to get defective drives. It's unfortunate, it sucks, and it happens far too often.

Just the way it goes I suggest. Like most devices involved with Technology that is constantly evolving, manufacturers just design to a specific half life because they know they will be replaced by the next wave and most customers move on to the latest Tech, When you buy a CPU you already know it will be basically obsolete in 2-3 years as a comparison. GPU's are even worse! I have a shed load of obsolete tech which needs to go to the tip, not convinced it really well "be recycled". God help our Planet.
